Map in canvas

Hello,

I was trying to do the Pierre Huguet Mapping Tutorial v2 for AI2 recently.

At some point it says to set the canvas background to a map (as it can be seen in the picture)

but as I insert the link to the Canvas BackgroundImageSource tab and try to run it it doesn't work.

Whan opening the link in the browser it says: 

The Google Maps Platform server rejected your request. You must use an API key to authenticate each request to Google Maps Platform APIs. For additional information, please refer to http://g.co/dev/maps-no-account.

Is there a way do do the same using a different link,

or can it somehow be done with OSM?
