Dear All,
We are inviting international applications for Tenure-Track Research Fellowships (Assistant Professors) in AI/Embodied AI for Materials Discovery at the University of Liverpool to join our world-leading research frontier dedicated to solving grand challenges using AI and digital innovation.
Join us in addressing the core global challenge of sustainable materials for a net-zero future. Today, the pace of traditional materials discovery is too slow to meet urgent climate goals. Our research fundamentally tackles this by redefining materials design using cutting-edge computational modelling, AI, and robotics to accelerate the design and deployment of next-generation materials at speed and scale.
We are seeking independent research leaders to apply against one of our defined frontier focus areas, which are highly interdisciplinary and involve close collaboration with partners across science, engineering, and industry:
Embodied AI and Automation for Materials Chemistry: Developing research programs in robotics and autonomous discovery systems.
AI and Data-Centric Materials Discovery: Applying Machine Learning and data science to discover new energy or sustainable process materials (e.g., catalysis, recycling).
Digital Design for Manufacturing of Complex Engineering Materials for Extreme Environments: Using AI/ML-driven design and digital twins for advanced materials used in sectors like aerospace, nuclear, and deep-sea.
We are looking for researchers who can propose and conduct high-impact, independent, and multidisciplinary research that will contribute to this pioneering effort.
Key Requirements:
A PhD in a discipline relating to your fellowship proposal.
At least three years of postdoctoral experience in an academic, R&D, or policy environment, demonstrating potential for independent leadership.
Strong research skills with a background of excellent research outputs across materials, engineering, chemistry, and/or machine learning/AI.
A willingness and aptitude for collaborating closely with the wider research community (chemists, engineers, and industrial partners).
What We Offer:
The opportunity to establish a significant, independent research program in a globally recognised area (Queen's Anniversary Prize-winning research).
A vibrant, interdisciplinary research environment at the University of Liverpool, with world-leading facilities and researchers in robotics, AI, and materials science.
The chance to drive real-world transformation, powering breakthroughs in clean energy, healthcare, and sustainable materials.
