Job Description:

The Robotics and Autonomous Systems Department at the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), A*STAR, Singapore, invites applications with passion to conduct R&D in robot manipulation, motion planning and learning-based control, with the eventual goal of translating successful research outcomes to the real world. You will be part of our team developing autonomous robots for both indoor and outdoor applications including health tech, agritech for food sustainability, and smart urban solutions. The successful candidate will be involved in some or all of the following tasks:

  • Learning-based manipulator and/or mobile manipulator motion planning and control
  • Variable-stiffness manipulator/soft robot motion control
  • Safety monitoring of robot behaviors and actions
  • Realization of algorithms developed into computational footprints that are suitable for deployment in robots, including optimizing the algorithms to allow for real-time processing
  • System integration and testing
  • Actively collaborate with other researchers in scientific writing, testing, experimentations, and trouble-shootings the system during testing and real-world trial deployments

Requirements:

  • PhD in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or those related to robotics and AI 
  • Good understanding in one/more of robotics fundamentals, motion planning and control algorithms, engineering mathematics, machine learning, nonlinear systems is required
  • Good software development experience and skilled in programming languages such as C++, Python, or MATLAB is required 
  • Experienced in programming in Linux, and experiences in working with ROS, MoveIt, Gazebo, PCL, Git, CMake is preferred
  • Experience in robotics or AI-related project (especially in any of the aforementioned areas) is an advantage
  • Proactive and responsible team player and able to solve problems independently, as well as in a team
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
