I’ve worked in software engineering since 2000. I started my career in
research (AI, ML, computer vision like Unaiza, economics and finance)
after completing a BSc in Computer Science and an MBA in Finance. I
also worked as a consultant for the government, then Microsoft and
finally Bloomberg in New York. I decided to move back to Canada where
I’m originally from.
By the way, Maxime is also a guy name over here just like Emre in
Turkey. ;) I think there are more women in software engineering than
in the past but the ratio is not one to one yet.
I’d also like to do a PhD in a top school but I’m not sure I want to
move away from my family and friends again.
Thanks for your introductions and I’m looking forward to hear from the
other group members. ;)

I am Dhruv. I graduated in 2008 from NIT Trichy, India. Worked at
Google in Bangalore, India and then in Mountain View, CA for ~3 years.
Recently, I moved into the startup team for getaround.com at San Francisco.
These are exciting times to be a CS engineer. We are a scarce resource
as automation gains momentum in our society. But, in a few years,
programming will be easy. And understanding and being able to work
with data, make sense of it will be the skill in demand. We already
see some of this in our jobs. I am hoping to learn machine learning to
deepen my understanding of what users are trying to say in those logs
:)
Looking forward to working with everyone here.
Have a great rest of the week!

My name is Rashmi. I have been working in the field of Computer
Architecture for nearly 7 years now. My programming skills would be of
an intermediate level. I have experience with C/C++ on the high level
languages. X86 and ARM are the assembly languages that I know
I have signed up only for the AI class now and am planning on taking
ML in spring. I cannot say how active I would be on this group for the
next couple of months since I have a lot going on in the work front as
well as the AI class. So, you see I still have skills to develop
before I can contribute to some of the great ideas/problems that I see
coming from you people. However, I hope to start contributing once I
have some experience with ML and probably other fields of AI.
My main field of interest is Robotics as of now
Thanks,
Rashmi
I'm Ivo from the Czech Republic. I'm 30 years old.
I have Master degree from computer science.
I program everything: compressed filesystem, distributed search, AJAX
GUI, games, ...
I have a bit more knowledge of AI and ML than is covered in the
lectures.
I got that from books and research papers.
My aim is to use AI+ML as an intelligence multiplier. I can build an
intelligent agent.
And the agent can solve harder problems. I already did that for
Sokoban.
It is nice that we have such strong community here.
It will be interesting discussions.
Thanks Maxime for creating the group.
I'm Pádraic, from Belfast, N. Ireland. I currently work in
the Predictive Analytics group for a large US insurance
company. Traditionally we have been building statistical models using
packages such as SAS & SPSS, but are now using much more advanced
ML techniques.
I've a Degree in Maths & Statistics and I'm currently really
enjoying the ML class. I'm really look forward to learning and
working together with all of you. It's great to see so many people on
here from all over the world. :)
Oh and I am looking forward to participate in this community:)

I'm interested in the algo trading challenge and have also spoken with
others in the team on text to speech software for a particular
language. Also interested in robotics. I think I'll focus my efforts
on the algo trading challenge for now.
Here is some trivia.. What's our Narwhal's tusk made of?
Well.. concrete of course! But I submit that it needs to be more
flexible.. to adapt. Suggestions? Maybe it has a diamond tip?
OK time to get back to ml-class HW.
Go Narwhals! Thanks for reading,
Sriram
My name is Lee Parayno. I'm a 36 yo database administrator with Viacom. I've worked with MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server. Have experience programming with Perl, Java, Tcl and hacking many other scripting languages to get stuff done.
I'm in both the AI and ML classes and have an interest in Robotics as well.
I'd be interested in doing the Lego Mindstorms also if that was what we started with.
