Two funded undergraduate positions are available in the area of Machine Learning and Optimization as part of an NSF-sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program.

Project Description

The Summer 2021 REU program will focus on building ML models (mainly deep neural networks) to aid the resolution of discrete and continuous optimization problems. The project may involve AI societal values, including privacy and fairness. The program will last ten weeks, from June 1 to August 9, 2021.

Each participant will receive a stipend of $500 per week and include housing allowance. NSF requires an REU participant to be either a US citizen or a US permanent resident. Students who major in all areas of study, including mathematics, statistics, computer science, and engineering are welcome. Minorities are particularly encouraged to apply.

Requirements: Python (PyTorch/TensorFlow) knowledge; Optimization (continuous and or discrete); Linear Algebra; Supervised and/or RL.

To Apply

Students who are interested in this REU program should submit their applications to Prof. Fioretto at ffio...@syr.edu no later than May 1, 2021. The application package should include a CV, transcript and a statement about their motivation and interest to this project.

See nandofioretto.com for additional information of Prof. Fioretto's research.
