Dear Friends,

Online web applications can be accessed using a wide range of web
browsers. Some prefer Mozilla Firefox, others may use Google Chrome
and few more Opera and so on. This is left to the discretion of the
individual user.

However, HRMS recommends its users to use Internet Explorer version
6.0 and above, with a minimum screen resolution of 1024x768. I
personally have encountered problems working with HRMS using Mozilla
Firefox.

The screen resolution is important because the drop-down menu of the
Modules menu seems to be distorted (especially, the History and NPS
options appear somewhere else) when viewed in lower resolution.

So, as a standard practice, always use Internet Explorer version 6.0
and above to avoid browser compatibility issues with HRMS.

U can do every thing on firefox except approving draft paybill. I
contacted E-governance secretary Dr Vidyashankar over mail. He replied
and directer mr Shankar, HRMS project officer to look over the issue.
And till date, there's no word from Mr Shankar. I hate internet
explorer and think everybody who uses firefox will.

Dear Dr. Naveen,

Yes, I agree with you that the only issue with Firefox is when we want
to approve the draft paybill. But, it isn't really that big an issue
to make scripts cross-browser compatible; hope to see this getting
fixed soon.

Internet explorer had a lot of security issues, but they seem to have
addressed most of them in their latest version 9. I basically being a
Linux user, have little idea about IE.

Even I wrote to Mr. Shankar, Project Officer of HRMS at e-Governance.
Guess he is too busy to read and reply each and every mail that hits
his Inbox.

The worse part of HRMS these days is that we get not much support from
them. On making a list of Nodal Officers, they assume that their
responsibility ceases. Practically it is impossible for a Nodal
Officer to extend support in all aspects of HRMS.

Dr. Naveen, today I just was trying to add a request to help desk from Problem/Query/Request => Problem/Query/Request Tracker menu using Firefox. To my surprise, I could not see the Save button to add the request! Have you ever tried this?

Finally, I switched to Internet Explorer (uuhhh) to pursue the task :o)

On training day Mr.Shankar, HRMS informed that presently they have blocked that problem/request tracker, like earlier we usedto write the problem faced by us & what are all the steps we have done, then save the content. Then We used to get a call from HRMS.

One more thing Dr.Prashant, How do we send this link to other friends, who regularly use HRMS?
bye
Sateesh

U r right Sir, I didnt use this module until now, just checked and u are right. Just cant understand one thing. HRMS is web based, so can be made platform independent to allow use on open source OS's r other browsers. What's preventing them from doing it? Is it that difficult r is it Just take what I give n dont ask back ATTITUDE?

Dr. Naveen, the word you used in bold - ATTITUDE, meant a lot! It also did ignite the spark of introspection.

Well, technically speaking, it isn't a nightmare to make a script cross-browser compatible. As a matter of fact, most of the scripts running on HRMS App looks like Ajax - which can be easily tweeked to work on any popular browser. HRMS being workable only in IE can hardly make it a Web App!

As I have seen past four years of my stay in the Dept, HRMS has largely evolved in to a more complex and advanced HRM tool. Hope the development team does consider making it a real Web Application in the near future.
