Thank you all for great information!!I'm thinking about going to India to get Panchakarma treatment.getting confused after reading all the posts especially about the result of treatment and post symptoms. No one seemed really happy with their results.Do you believe that was really worth it for those who have done treatments a while ago?I'm in San Francisco bay area and it's a long flight plus local traveling. How did you guys arrange local transportation? Is it safe to travel locally for woman alone?Do you know any other good place near mumbai or Deli or close from airport? or less crowds...I don't think I can travel that long since I have low energy.Thank you in advance and sending you all my prayers to be healthy ^^Katie

Hi Surbhi!!
Sorry to hear about your pain. I wish you a speedy recovery.
The kottakkal treatment had done me a miracle in itself. I was bedridden with sciatica nerve pain and my right leg being almost numb due to blocked circulation. Asher the initial 14 days of treatment, I was able to walk but my knees were stiff and bending them much or climbing stairs was a herculean task. I was just glad to be out of bed and able to walk. But over the year, the treatment had done me so well that now I can do everything normally except squat probably. I was having the kashayam capsules for almost 9 months and alternate day bath with karpuradhi and valiye narayanadhi tailam. This I did for almost 4 months religiously. Now I just apply Karpuradhi tailam whenever my back our right leg starts paining. This usually happens if I don't lie down for at least half an hour that day. I was advised to take the 14 days treatment every 6 months for three years. However, due to work commitment I had to skip that and now I'm undergoing the second round of my treatment at kottakkal. The pain is still there when they massage certain points of my back and right leg but I'm almost back to my normal life.
The first aspect for any successful treatment is to have faith that it will work out for you. I understand how frustrating this pain can make us at times. But, Surbhi, don't lose hope. It is a slew healing process and you will have to take ample rest...especially for 14 more days after treatment. Do not bend at your hips under any circumstance and avoid jerks. Lie down often and rest your feet on pillows. It will be God to continue the medications for a while and keep those tailams handy. They take almost an hour top show effect but whenever it pains, do apply them and lie down till you feel better. You will have to accept some lifestyle modifications and treat your back with double care and caution. Don't worry, it will surely get better.
I hope I was able to answer your query well. Do not hesitate to share your thoughts and doubts on this forum. Some of the earlier posts are a great motivation.
Take care and my best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Cheers and Regards,
Sindhu
Dear Geetha,
As I write this, I'm in my 10th day of 3rd treatment since May 2013. For the first time, I've been admitted at the AVS KOTTAKKAL in Thrikkakara. Till now I took the treatment as a walk-in patient. Trust me, I'm getting much more out of this treatment on being admitted than as a walk-in patient. My course of treatment includes pizhichil, panjikizhi, vasti and bandages.
The doctor says that I will need another 2 years of treatment...
As for the treatment, I feel very positive about it since I'm almost back to normal life. From being bedridden, I slowly graduated to walking without limp, climbing stairs by alternating feet, kneeling, sitting on floor for 5 minutes straight. It took a lot of faith in the treatment and the AVS Kottakkal doctors and staff have never let me down.
I wish you a speedy recovery, Geetha!
Let me know if you wish to know anything in particular. I would be glad to answer your queries to the best of my knowledge.
Best wishes,
Sindhu'

Dear Geetha,
I'm feeling much better, especially after this third session in AVS. This is the first time I underwent the Vasti treatment and it is highly beneficial.
How are you doing?

Sindhu

I am srinivasu from hyderabad and suffering from rhreumatoid arthritis since 4 years. Since august 2015 , iam going to avs kochi for 21 days treatment. Is your problem removed with these treatments. And still are you attending the treatments. My condition was worst before the second treatment april 2016. Problem increased at knees after the first treatment. But at other places some what better. Presently I am not able to walk normally. I am going to third treatment in november 2016. What is your present condition after treatment at avs kochi. My parents asking about treatment, problem should be reduced otherwise stopped at same place. Why problem is increased after treatment?. Will this treatment helpful to us or not.
Regards
G srinivasu
Hope it helps. Frankly, I have strong reservations about the long term efficacy of Ayurvedic treatments like the one at AVS.

Hi All my wife and I were at AVS Kottakkal some time ago for treatment . We felt fantastic after the first visit and fairly on the second visit. Planning to go again soon but am starting to get a bit worried about the negative feedback about the treatment there.

Dear Srinivasu,
Greetings!
I'm sorry to hear about the difficult phase you are in but rest assured, there is hope. Getting the treatment for 21 days alone is not the complete cure. Recuperation is an ongoing process. The diet, lifestyle changes, acceptance of the problem and then working around it to lead an almost-normal life are the key elements that will ensure that you are in the right track of recovery. It took me 3 years, immense patience and undeterring faith to reach this stage. I won't say that I'm completely cured because that could only be done by a surgery (if it was successful). However, I'm not bedridden anymore, I'm going about my normal life driving my car, taking care of my 5 year old, running a household, playing badminton, dancing and walking. This is Recuperation enough for me! But, to get here from my bedridden state, I wouldn't say that it came easy.
The best thing is that we have a positive support group here. I'm sure the doctors in AVS are capable enough and if it's something they couldn't help you with, they would have told you so.
I would suggest that you do an introspection about what could have gone wrong for the problem to worsen. After 21 days of treatment, you must give 21 more days of optimum rest to your body. This is a very very very essential part of the treatment. Have you followed these Guidelines? Also, avoid the stairs as much as you can. If you can't then take it very slowly. I'm asking coz after my 2nd treatment, I didn't pay attention to this part and my problem worsened. I have stopped with my 3rd treatment and not taking any medications since February this year. If someday I start feeling any pain, I quickly apply my tailam, rest for an hour followed by a hot water bath and bed rest for 2 days. I'm up and about again after that.
I would suggest you have a one to one, honest chat with your doctor. Whom are you consulting in AVS? As such, I've met most of them there and they all are capable enough.
Best wishes & don't hesitate to ask queries.
Best wishes and have a speedy recovery!
Sindhu Deepak
Thanks for your replies to my mail.
Sindhu deepak , i am consulting TMU warrier doctor at avs kochi. During the first treatment doctor said to me, your problem can be removed with 4 to 5 treatments with 6 months gap. That time i was not getting much pain at knees only lees pain. I was able to walk slowly. That time i was getting more at right leg ankle and toes and right hand wrist, fingers. I was not able to use computer keyboard and mouse freely. In the morning time brushing also big problem with right hand. Now i can say that after first treatment some what better at those places. Now i can use keyboatd and mouse and brushing with right hand but not continuously. Right leg ankle problem also partially reduced. I follwed the rest as doctor said 14 days.
Before going to second treatment in april, in the month of february knees problem started with pain. After that stiffness and swelling increased in the month of march and bed ridden. During the second treatment, doctor seen my latest blood sample reports and told me that your RA, ESR , AntiCCP values are more. Actually RA and ESR values are increased after first treatment. Then doctor told me that because of weather conditions and food habbits your problem increased. Still i am following avs kochi medicines. Presently i am not taking any english medicines. Since march onwards i am not going to office because my this much problem.
During second treatment, doctor TMUwarrier told me that knees problem cannot be removed easily it may take time. But how long he didnt say. After second treatment knees problem little reduced. Still i am trusting ayurveda can solve this problem. Is it good to take english medicines along with ayurvedic medicines.
Actually i got confidence from this group. I am following this group since one year.
Thanks to everyone.
Regards
G srinivasu.
Sindhu ji, I'd like to connect with you, if you can mention your email address.
I have three bulging lumbar discs and been facing loss of cervical curvature, because of constant pulling of my muscles. These are a result of the adjustments I had to make while sitting (as I have a dislocated tailbone). The tailbone itself requires removal - since orthopedics, and AVS people also said that there can't be high expectations with regards to it's healing using conservative approaches. I've tried everything.
But for my lumbar, cervical and SI joint, the AVS doctor, here in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh said it can get better. But I'll have to get admitted twice a year, for Panchkarma.
For one month, I'd been on their medicines : Kashayam Syrup, Gandha Tailam, Bala Tailam, and external application of oils mixed together (Murivenna and Kottamchukkadi).
I do feel the oils started to help.
I'm specifically interested to know if people here prefer going to Kerala hospital or it's fine to go to their local hospital? How are the Panchkarma charges there?
It sounds like AVS treatment is promising, for lumbar and cervical spondylosis.
At what stage during your AVS treatment, did you start seeing improvements?
While on medicines and not yet taken Panchkarma, do we focus on rest? And continue to do our exercises?
Around what stage, did your doctors made you give up the medicines?
I don't have much of a life left due to several conditions impairing me. I stay in bed, move around and go for walks. But I can't sit much.
The Baddi hospital asked for 90k for Panchkarma. They told me the two admissions must be done in next 2-3 years.
I've wasted a lot of money during my last five years of chronic pain, since the accident. I just want to be very convinced of AVS's efficacy because the admission is a lot of money for someone like me.
Any comments would be appreciated.
