Dear Respected AfHEA members.
I’m writing to respectfully encourage your vote for Prof. James Akazili as AfHEA Board Member (English-speaking West Africa). His record in health financing and primary health-care systems strengthening is both rigorous and impactful. Here are three landmark projects/publications (with links):
Equity in health-care financing in Ghana (IJ for Equity in Health, 2011)
Prof. Akazili’s widely cited study documented that Ghana’s overall health-care financing is progressive (driven by taxes), but informal-sector contributions and out-of-pocket payments are regressive, highlighting critical reform needs for fair financial protection.

GEHIP – Child survival impact (PLOS ONE, 2019)
Prof. Akazili co-authored the evaluation showing the Ghana Essential Health Interventions Program (GEHIP) reduced neonatal mortality by about half in intervention areas—a major systems-strengthening success in northern Ghana.
