Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to express my strong support for Prof. James Akazili in the ongoing elections for the AfHEA Board, representing the West Africa English-Speaking Group.

Professor Akazili’s work has been central to the growth of health economics and health financing research in Ghana and across Africa. For over two decades, his studies have deepened our understanding of equity, efficiency, and priority-setting in health systems. His publications and technical contributions continue to serve as important reference points for researchers and policymakers alike.

Beyond his scholarship, what makes Professor Akazili truly stand out is his humility and mentorship. Many of us, especially early-career researchers, have benefited from his openness, encouragement, and commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation of African scholars.

He also brings a unique perspective to the AfHEA Board:

  • With more than 20 years of service in the Ghana Health Service’s research division, he has firsthand knowledge of government realities and policy implementation.

  • As Dean of the School of Public Health at C.K. Tedam University of Technology & Applied Sciences, he has advanced academic rigor, training, and research.

  • His career bridges policy and academia, aligning directly with AfHEA’s mission to strengthen health economics and policy analysis across Africa.

For these reasons, I strongly believe Professor Akazili is the right candidate to represent the West Africa English-Speaking Group. He embodies AfHEA’s vision of achieving better and more equitable health for Africans through effective policy and efficient use of resources.

👉🏾 I encourage all members—senior colleagues and early-career researchers alike—to rally behind his candidacy. Please make sure your membership dues are up to date and cast your vote via the official AfHEA platform here: [ https://lnkd.in/d3QTD4Fq]

Together, let us support Professor James Akazili, a leader who represents excellence, mentorship, and our shared vision for a stronger African health economics and policy community.

Warm regards,

--
