Dear Colleagues,

The International AIDS Society (IAS), in partnership with the International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs (ICAP) and The Global Fund To Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (The Global Fund), is pleased to invite you to a registration only meeting entitled: "Bridging the Divide: Inter-disciplinary Partnerships for HIV and Health Systems" to be held in Vienna from the 16th to 17th July 2010 at The Vienna Marriott Hotel. This meeting will precede the XVIII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2010), 18 - 23 July 2010 in Vienna, Austria; and will be organized with funding from The Rockefeller Foundation.

The objectives of the meeting are to:

a. Foster interdisciplinary partnerships between HIV experts, experts from other health programs, health economists, and health systems experts;

b. Present data and evidence from implementation research, rigorous evaluation and country case studies addressing vital questions on the impact of HIV programming on health systems;

c. Discuss options for the future with respect to leveraging HIV programming to improve health systems and other priority health conditions;

d. Highlight a priority research agenda re: HIV and health systems;

Your expertise in health systems research, HIV and public health will be critical to ensuring the success of this meeting and to helping this unique gathering of global experts contribute to greater understanding of the interactions between HIV and Health Systems. Discussions will also advance emerging evidence and a priority research agenda in leveraging the impact of HIV scale up on health systems strengthening.

We expect an attendance of 200 participants, which will include HIV and other health professionals, health systems experts, health economists and researchers on human resources for health. Details on the Agenda of the HIV and Health Systems Pre-Conference will be sent to you in due course, and in addition regular updates will be posted onto the IAS website at www.iasociety.org.

Due to space limitations, this is a registration only meeting and places will be awarded on a first come first served basis. We are also working with a limited budget and do not have the means to finance your participation at this meeting.

A distinguished Steering Committee, chaired by Wafaa El-Sadr Director of ICAP, Columbia University, is composed of a list of leading experts from key stakeholder organizations including Columbia University; The Global Fund; The World Bank; WHO; UNAIDS; USAID/OGAC/CDC; UNICEF; Médecins sans Frontières; Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp; University of Pretoria; University of Cape Town; Centre for Health and Social Services (CHESS-Ghana); Centre for Global Development (CGD); Ministry of Health of Kenya; African Center for Global Health and Social Transformation (ACHEST-Uganda); African Council for Sustainable Health Development (ACOSHED) and the IAS.

We look forward to a positive response to this invitation. Please note that meeting participants planning to attend the International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2010) will have to register separately for AIDS 2010 at http://www.aids2010.org/Default.aspx?pageId=188 ; and will also be responsible for making their own travel arrangements to the Conference.

Dear Sam,

This is to express my interest to participarte in the forth coming
AIDS pre-conference on health systems to take place in Vienna.
However, it is proving difficult apperently to obtain funding for the
conference from my organisation.
