Dear Colleagues and Friends,

I am honoured to present myself as a candidate for the AfHEA Board, representing the West Africa (English-speaking/Anglophone) region.

This is more than a position; it is a call to serve, to amplify our collective voice, and to strengthen the role of health economics in shaping Africa’s future.

Over the past 25 years, I have served across Nigeria’s health system—from frontline care to national policy reform. As Director of Standards & Quality Assurance and former Acting Director General at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), I have led transformative efforts in strategic purchasing, Health Technology Assessment (HTA), clinical coding, and digital accreditation. I was privileged to contribute to the development of the NHIA Act (signed into law on May 19, 2022), the NHIA Standard Treatment Guidelines and Referral Protocols, and the modernization of quality assurance systems.

My guiding principle has always been clear: decisions must be driven by evidence, equity, and collaboration.

I am proud to share that I am a member of AfHEA, the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua), and the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM). I also hold a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Health economics is not just about numbers; it is about lives, equity, and the future of our continent. AfHEA has always been a space where ideas meet action. If elected, I will work to:

  • Strengthen Regional Collaboration: Build networks for joint research, mentorship, and policy exchange across West Africa.
  • Advance HTA & Strategic Purchasing: Scale up training and support integration of evidence-based tools into national health decisions.
  • Promote Policy Impact: Help researchers translate findings into actionable policy through briefs, dialogues, and advocacy.
  • Elevate Our Regional Voice: Ensure West Africa’s priorities contribute to shaping AfHEA’s agenda and continental health reforms.
  • Champion Inclusion & Innovation: Support gender equity, digital tools, and capacity building for the next generation of health economists.

I believe in the power of shared knowledge and inclusive leadership. I believe in you. And I would be deeply grateful for your support as we take this next step together.

Warm regards,

Dr. Yakubu Adole Agada-Amade

Cordialement,

Dr Yakubu Adole Agada-Amade

Dear AfHEA Members,

I hope this message finds you well.

We have a few days until the end of the election.

I write to kindly solicit your support and vote as I contest for the election to serve as Board Member representing West Africa (Anglophone) in the ongoing AfHEA Board elections.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of contributing actively to our community of practice. Most recently, notably:

  1. I served on a panel and coordinated the session on Health Technology Assessment (HTA) during the Nigeria Healthcare Financing Policy Dialogue, where we pushed for the institutionalization of HTA in Nigeria [https://www.premiumtimesng.com/health/health-news/818802-nhia-pushes-health-technology-reforms-to-cut-waste-expand-coverage.html].
  2. I also contributed as a panelist in a session organized by IQVIA on Accelerating Access Through Health Economics: Spotlight on Ghana and Nigeria, where we advocated for greater integration of health economics in decision-making processes [https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7368175835012378624/].

I am passionate about advancing the role of health economics in shaping equitable, evidence-based policies across Africa. Serving on the AfHEA Board would provide an opportunity to amplify these efforts, foster regional collaboration, and ensure our collective voice continues to influence health systems strengthening.

I kindly ask for your vote and support in this election. Together, we can strengthen AfHEA’s mission and impact across the region.

VOTE TODAY! https://afhea.org/afhea-board-election/

Thank you for your time, trust, and consideration.

Warm regards,
Dr. Yakubu Agada-Amade
Candidate for AfHEA Board Member (West Africa – Anglophone)

Dear Colleagues,
It has been almost three weeks since voting started. In the next few hours, voting will close.

Prioritising health economics and evidence-informed policy-making as central pillars of health system strengthening is the way forward.

I have the experience to contribute to steering AfHEA towards that direction.
