Dear Colleagues,

As many of you may have seen, I have put myself forward to be elected onto International Health Economics Association Board as Director for Africa - elections are open to all iHEA members from everywhere to vote, even if you are not based in Africa.

I joined iHEA in 2007 while completing my MA at University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). I was (and is more so now) attracted to this Assoc's goal and efforts at strengthening health economics research and teaching capacity to improve health policies everywhere. Since then, a lot has happened to boost the landscape of health economics training, research and policy in Africa, including birth of AfHEA African Health Economics & Policy Assoc, est of Health Economics and Financing function at Africa's foremost continental health agency, Africa CDC and several graduate health economics programs across the continent, and I am happy to have been involved in many of these.

I was also involved in development of iHEA's mentoring program through the Professional Development Subcommittee and happy to see a more vibrant early career network (and position on the Board), with significant benefits to Africa.

It's time to become more involved in International Health Economics Association to accelerate capacity (of individuals, training and policy institutions) for use of health economics in Africa, and to help drive the next phase of improving the landscape of health economicsin Africa. This forms the basis of my decision to stand for elections as iHEA Board Director for Africa.

Please do vote and encourage iHEA members to vote.

Dear Justice,

Thank you very much for sharing this information, and congratulations on your candidacy for the position of Africa Director on the iHEA Board.
Please be assured of my full support; your long-standing commitment to advancing health economics on the continent speaks for itself.

I also hope that your mandate will strengthen the engagement of francophone countries, which face significant structural challenges and must be fully included in the training, research, and institutional capacity-building efforts promoted by iHEA.

I join colleagues in wishing you every success in this election and in your continued leadership.

Warm regards,

Serge

Thanks Serge. Indeed, I am aware of this challenge with iHEA, and I will work to support AfHEA in pursuing this - AfHEA has been diligent in helping close the linguistic gap in health economics training and research and we need to bridge this gap by tailoring initiatives from iHEA and championing the need to be inclusive.
