Dear Ahimsa House practitioners,
Over the past 5 years we have celebrated this space as a safe place for people to practice peace, self care and root down in anti-oppression and resilience.
We have had some instances brought to our attention regarding microagreesions and straight out inappropriate behavior. Ahimsa House management has tried to do our best to address the issues as they arise. We are committed to confronting the issues face to face and trying to bring those who were impacted to some peace and make sure that the issues will not reoccur by offering training to those who spread thier ignorance with harmful actions or speech.
We want to take a moment to recognize that the last incidents in the incredible long running radical mental health group held at the house is being handled. Meetings were held with those hurt in the space and then we met with those who had the harmful views. We also held a house wide workshop on patriarchy and have asked those who did not understand the issues to do self study and not join the group until there is clarity for them regarding the issues and commitment to change their behavior.
There are many lessons for us each time these issues arise and we always welcome help from everyone in the community to chip in with their skills, voices, and love. PLEASE recognize that your feedback and assistance makes this a true community and that holding each other to our highest is something that takes a lot of work. Curating the space and keeping it safe and making it increasingly welcoming and accessible are a constant challenge. Please help us by being in touch, or dropping notes in the dana box.
much love,
meg & sade
