ear advocates,

We are reaching out to you as community partners who lead initiatives and / or have supported past legislation to advance human rights for survivors of trafficking. We invite your organization to sign onto our growing list of supporters for HB2843, Justice for Survivors of Human Trafficking.

HB2843 provides legal standing for survivors of trafficking to file a motion to vacate criminal convictions for acts that occurred as a result of trafficking. In Illinois, many victims of human trafficking are permanently criminalized for acts resulting from their exploitation and abuse. The proposed legislation empowers survivors to reclaim their dignity, livelihoods and futures.

This proposed legislation is championed by Representative Ann Williams and Senator Toi Hutchinson. Outreach efforts are being led by Heartland Alliance and Metropolitan Family Services, in collaboration with CAASE. Please see the attached fact sheet for more information, let us (Sam Tuttle or myself) know if you have questions and sign on your organization as a supporter here!

Thanks so much,

Taneka Jennings, MSW
