Thanking you,

Requirement for a full-timer at AID-Hyderabad chapter
About AID Hyderabad:
The Hyderabad chapter of Assoc. for India’s Development (AID) was started in the year 2005. Since then, it has worked on issues of education, agriculture, human rights and so on. This includes Hyderabad-based work as well as initiating or supporting field work in different districts like Kurnool, Anantapur, Khammam & Srikakulam. In the past 5 years, the main focus area has been issues of food, farmers and agriculture – such as farmer suicides, changing agricultural policies, awareness about healthy, organic food and millets, campaigning against Genetically Modified foods, and promoting sustainable agriculture. The range of work varies from working with farmers in the grass roots to doing policy advocacy on various issues of agriculture.
(Note: for more information about AID, see below)

Requirement for a full-timer:
AID Hyderabad is looking for a full-timer who will (a) assist in the work on the issues of food, farmers and agriculture and, (b) assist in running the organization. Since AID has a holistic perspective, AID Hyderabad does get involved in different areas such as human rights, displacement, education, etc apart from agriculture, so there will be occasions to work on other interests but at this point, food & agriculture issues form the key focus area.

What we are looking for in the candidate:
Commitment and Initiative:
·         Expected to have a basic commitment to the cause of working for the society, especially the underprivileged, and not looking at this as just another job. In the past, many persons have first worked with AID for quite some time as volunteers before the more committed ones taking up a full-time position.
·         Should show personal initiative in taking up tasks and identifying how they can be done most effectively, rather than just looking to follow instructions.
·         Minimum one year of commitment to work with AID, and preferably longer.
·         Should be ready to travel (two to five out-of-town trips in a month).
·         Should be ready to take up a variety of tasks required for building the organization.
Interests: Preferably very interested in issues related to farmers and agriculture, political advocacy and rights-based work.
Experience: Preferably at least one year of experience of working with NGOs, Peoples movements or media, and more preferably in the area of agriculture & farmers’ issues
Languages & Writing Skills: English, Telugu – speaking, reading and writing well. Minimum: Ability to draft letters, summarize discussions, meeting minutes, read media articles, identify relevant articles and gather information on a particular issue.
Desirable: Ability to draft a press release, write short articles, translate articles or documents (English to Telugu or Telugu to English.
Communication and Interpersonal skills: Meeting and interacting with different people, ability to work collaboratively with several people including AID volunteers and people from other organizations.
Computer Skills: Ability to work with word processing and spreadsheets (like MS Word and MS Excel). Preferably ability to do calculations and data processing in Excel.

Compensation:
Rs.10000 – 15000, depending on the capability of the candidate, with some additional budget for travel and communication.

About AID:
Born in 1991, Association for India’s Development (AID) is a volunteer based movement promoting sustainable, just and equitable development. AID works in various areas such as health, education, environment, human rights, agriculture, and anti-corruption, working with a number of organizations and people’s movements across various states in India.
