[Finances AHA]

Greetings,

The future of AHA looks a little brighter today.

About a year ago, as Fund-Raising Director, I was asked if AHA would write a letter of support for Dr. Silvia Lindtner, a UMSI professor applying for an NSF grant to conduct a sort of International Makers workshop.  The Board agreed and we did so (see attached).

Silvia has just informed me the grant was awarded!  Congratulations to Dr. Lindtner and her colleagues!

In her words, "... the grant will fund us to host a workshop/conference here in Ann Arbor sometime over the next years.  I will be in touch with more details, but we are thrilled about the opportunity to bring together local makers like you and our partners and maker friends from China and Taiwan. We are just in the early stages, so not much planning has happened, so i will be in touch as things start moving!."

On a related note, be sure to introduce yourself to her doctoral student Cindy L. who will become a familiar face to many of us.  Cindy hails from Singapore and has experience with DIYbio Singapore and nearby Indonesian Makerspaces.  She is in the early stages of conducting an enthnographic study of DIY Makerspaces in SE Michigan in which AHA is included.  More details as we hear about them.

Establishing these types of formal relationships with the University of Michigan will help AHA meet its mission and help sustain us for the long-term.
