What has gone missing?

I changed this to goto the director mailing list. If this is actually happening, we may want to approach it silently to prevent unrest while we do more investigation.

Thanks,
Donnie Jones

So I have been approached by a few concerned members that things have been getting stolen. The list is increasing. We need to come up with a way to handle this.

Tyler S.

Let's stick to the facts and figure out if this is real.  If it is, we'll deal with it.  And fast.

If not, be ready to share, by email, that what you sent was incorrect.

Its important people feel safe at AHA and having put that out with a subject line saying we might have criminals...?  That message has just created another problem.    I'm sure a few members are now very concerned about their own safety.  I hope they stay until this gets sorted.

But it's already done.  Now let's deal with it.  Today.

1)  when you find a problem of this magnitude, please bring a suggestion of how to solve it.
2) details please - dates, objects, when X was last seen.
3) have you taken any steps, other than your note, to confirm what you've been told?  ie. With your own eyes
4) When were you first told?  Days and times are important
5) How long a period of time has this been happening?
6) a few concerned members?  Who is concerned?  If you don't want that out as general knowledge use bo...@gmail.com with a request to keep their names out of it.
7) Are they willing to speak with other Board members?

Lots to do today.  Please respond before Build Night starts.  I plan to be there.  Thanks.

Larry

Primarily what the list was. Chargers for phones and apperently the charger for even the tablet up front got took (i didn't check).
Stuff like expensive headphones and other things along that line. No one has reported any project parts being stolen yet. and no one gave me times or dates. But the fact of the matter is someone is real, real sticky fingered.

These kind of things cannot be taken lightly. If people are telling you things are missing, you need to record who said it, what they said and when they said it. Until that point, it is hearsay unless we can verify the items are missing. It definitely should not be broadcasted or the public's trust is potentially compromised needlessly.

Well people actually appreciated me informing them of missing items happening. And as for the charger cables from the shop it does look like they are rather slim in supply, like we have one that isnt in the computer area. And because this effects the public directly. It only seemed like the right thing to do. No one really seems all that cray cray about this announcement. So you'll have to pardon me if I didn't exactly thing it through but eh, I can just get people to come forward about things that are missing if that's needed.

The point is, the only thing "missing" are cables and nobody has actually verified they are missing vs misplaced. Making an announcement that we have thieves is just a sensational claim when there is no definitive proof of it. If there were large ticket items missing, that is one thing, but common micro usb cables turning up missing is something else completely. Nearly every phone that goes into that building uses an identical cable, so it is more likely that people are accidentally walking off with them.

If cables and phone chargers are the only things missing, it's very likely due to people being forgetful and walking off with them, or putting them back in the wrong spot.  (See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanlon%27s_razor )

I'd like to propose a Monoprice order to restock our USB cables and chargers.  I was thinking of getting 5' USB A to micro cables, and 2A wall chargers, 10 of each.  Hopefully that will last us a while, and it should be relatively cheap.

I would also recommend using zipties or similar to affix a couple of these chargers in an accessible location for everyone who needs a quick boost, such as to minimize the chances that they "walk off".

I also forgot to add: I can also get a couple of adapters for those "Apple People".  Anyone know of a good USB micro->Apple power connector adapter? Or must it be a dedicated cable for the more recent devices?
