Hello, lovely creative people!
So, it's been the case, it seems to me (and a few others as well), that the runnings and machinations of All Hands Active have drifted apart in recent years from being entirely grassroots with the board managing official legal work and finances (which has been our tradition since we started), to the board and a few volunteers (bless y'all, seriously) disseminating information, and managing almost all of the every-day work...but the majority of our lovely community feeling like they're not really involved in the decision-making process and the running of the space.
So! That something I'd really like to change, and everyone on the board very much agrees with that sentiment; and it's something we've been really discussing the past few weeks. We are, after all, a community space—and it's equally as important to serving the community to be run by the community.
To that end, we'd really like to open up the channels of communication to make sure that every single person involved in the space is aware that everyone has an equal say in what the space is, how it runs, and what's going on there!
We're having sort of a "grand re-opening," if you will, of
our incredible and impossibly amazing Slack channel that will dazzle you, and I'd like to ask that everyone who has interest in the space to join up and feel free to participate. This will also give people who volunteer, and want to volunteer, a space to trade training tips, request for shift covers, and better coordination!
Lastlyyyyyy, I'd like to ask that everyone reading this feels free to respond to this email thread with how we can better revitalize the AHA email system, so that it better encourages people to share ideas and questions with each other again. I would personally like to have email channels for art, tech, volunteering, outside-the-space activities (grabbing dinner together, going to the gym together, etc...we used to do this a lot!), and general chit-chat, but I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this as well! We're a community space, and I'd really love us to be more of a community again. Thanks, folks! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. :)
