Dear Rotary Leaders,
It was a very interesting speaker-meet as the topic suggests: “Exploring extinct Indian languages, culture and heritage”,
arranged by PP Rtn. Hyma at Hotel Taj Tristar, Secunderabad on 1st August. Rtn Vikram Reddy of RC Hyd Deccan was the speaker.
The topic is too exhaustive to cover in 75 minutes. As Vikram said in his opening remarks, he was
trying to squeeze an elephant into neck of a mosquito (కుంజర యూధంబు దోమ కుత్తుక జొచ్చెన్).
Vikram tried to trace the origin of so called “Hindu Religion” as is known today.
As it doesn’t have single Holy Book or single deity to follow, Hinduism cannot be straight jacketed into a single “ism”.
The vast knowledge embedded in our ancient scriptures like Veda, Vedangas, Puranas, Maha Bharata etc
is not getting the due recognition as they are not validated by so called Western “scientific methods” and
are being lost by each passing day as Sanskrit is not being learnt.
(Recent experiment to have a week designated as Sanskrit Week in CBSE schools was politicized beyond limits with unwarranted religious overtones).
So there is a pressing need to create awareness about the vast knowledge embedded in our ancient scriptures.
We need to “Preserve the Heritage for Posterity”. Rotarians present have pledged together to meet more often
and to start a blog/web site/use other social media towards this end.
Lead is taken by Rtn. Hyma and Rtn. Anil, President of RC Secunderabad West.
Well spoke Vikram. You deserved the standing ovation. Hope to hear you more often.
