Culture Collective

Type: Exhibition Opportunities [View all]
Posted by: Linus Galleries
Deadline: 04/06/15

Cultures can be anything from a collective of humans, or animals, or bacteria that thrive through various associations such as nature, religion, government, internet and business. We live with each other in communes that rely on one other daily, and we are affected by our cultures whether they are defined by the parameters of what each entity is willing to do to maintain or oppose their particular culture. Share with us your depictions of what you feel represents culture, in any sense or form that it may take.

Calls are open to all local, domestic, national and international professional and amateur artists. All art mediums will be considered in this call for submissions. Sizes up to 12 feet are acceptable. Work must be able to be hung on a wall to be considered for the live exhibition. Freestanding 3D artworks will be displayed online only. http://ow.ly/HMIP6

Wild Things, A National Juried Exhibition

Type: Exhibition Opportunities [View all]
Posted by: Arts Council of Southeast Missouri
Deadline: 04/07/15

If civilization is what separates humankind from the animal kingdom, the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri asks artists to cross that line and become uncivilized. Artists across the United States are invited to submit their works depicting the world’s Wild Things. From household pets to rainforest creatures to ocean dwellers, artwork must depict a member, real or imagined, of the animal kingdom. Entry fee is $30 for 3 images.

Exhibit Dates: June 5-7, 2015

Juror: Ruth Reese
Ruth Reese is known for her surreal porcelain sculptures where animal forms merge with human figures and flora grafts to fauna. From these fantastic beings, psychological questions concerning the nature of identity naturally emerge. At present, she is a studio artist living in St. Louis, MO and the founder of Reese Gallery, where she curates exhibitions of other emerging and mid-career artists.

Deadline: 04/08/15

The Lexington Art League (LAL), a visual art center in Lexington, Ky, is seeking artwork submissions that address food and/or eating. Various food industry issues, from sustainable agriculture and organic farming to GMO’s and government nutrition regulation, have brought about political, ethical, and social debate. At the same time, hunger and obesity battle as epidemics in different parts of the world, serving to amplify the effect of global wealth inequality.

This exhibition aims to explore complex issues related to food and eating through social, emotional, ethical, religious, political, health, and other perspectives. Artists are encouraged to creatively interpret the theme and submit for consideration any work they think might be of interest.

Type: Exhibition Opportunities [View all]
Posted by: Nave Gallery Annex
Deadline: 04/12/15

The Nave Gallery Annex (Somerville, MA) invites artists to participate in the curated exhibition, Naked. The nude’s importance is paramount as a symbol of purity, humanity and sexuality. The body is the vessel that carries us through the world.  It is one of the purest forms of nature. The nude affects the way we see and interpret the rest of the world. It is something that goes unnoticed in our lives, but all of humanity, even the puritanical, confront it on a daily basis. Photography as a medium has no rules or limits. Its politics apply to whoever is making the image; it is vision, it is light and it is sight. All works with a photographic component may be entered into the show including, but not limited to: Alternative Photo Process, Wet Plate Collodion, Silver Prints, C-Prints, Polaroids, Digital Workflow and Mixed Media.
