BITE NITE DEUX

The ALS Association Greater Chicago Chapter is hosting its 2nd Annual food/art/beverage micro-gala called BITE NITE DEUX.  It is being held on Monday, October 21st, 2013 from 6:30-10:30 at Open Secret Studios in River West Chicago.  Ten Top Chicago Chefs along with Heaven Hill Distilleries, Zignum Mescal and Titos Vodka will all be participating.  Several Chicago artists have already donated their works for auction for this incredibly worthy cause.  For those of you who don't know, ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) is an always fatal disease that first robs an individual of the ability to move, then to speak, then swallow, and then ultimately to breathe.  There are never any survivors and there is no cure. Death is imminent usually no longer the 2-3 years post-diagnosis.

Kim & David DeJesus of The Chicago Cubs, who are huge supporters of our cause and Jesus Salguiero, Chef Art Smith's partner and an extremely accomplished artist himself, will be serving as our celebrity guests.

If you are interested in submitting a piece of artwork for this event, please contact Maryilen Blondell at 312.932.0000

Call for art submissions Propeller Centre for the Visual Arts (Toronto Other) Propeller Centre for the Visual Arts would like to invite the creative public to participate in the upcoming exhibition ’13’ happening from October 2- 13, 2013. This exhibition will also be open to the public during Scotibank’s Nuit Blanche on October 5, 2013. CALL: The year is 2013. Thirteen is the infamous and mystical number we fear, dark, enigmatic and magical. The number thirteen is associated with ill-luck, the conjured, the dangerous, the forbidden and the unknown, but many have no conception of the mathematical laws which govern it. Most are convinced of its magical powers, and most are uninformed of its numerical elegance or significance Some of us have created our own psychosis and irrational fear through ancient belief in ritual and superstition. We are consumed by the imagined negative attributes of 13 enough to omit the thirteenth floor in modern structures, to obsess over Friday the 13th, to assign 13 malevolent intentions, and to avoid the number at all cost. The evident polarization of number 13 is perplexing. But perhaps the answer lies in the bigger picture of our existence - the complexities of human behaviour, creative thought, and the spirit of our times, which we must admit is darkened by foreboding storms and opposing viewpoints. Can a mere number cause a schism in human existence? Darkness vs. Light.. Good vs. Evil… the Negative vs. the Positive… Concepts to consider : ‘13’ -the superstitious notion of 13 -the age 13 -pop culture and 13 -cultural perceptions/ readings of 13 -13 as bad luck/ magical/ dark/ cosmic/ irrational fear -13 in math These are just concepts to consider, your project does not have to touch upon any of the listed concepts. Deadline for Submission: August 23, 2013 Submissions will be accepted online at http://huutaart.com All submissions are subject to a fee that covers jury and exhibition costs. Or send your submission on CD or DVD. We do not accept submission via email. Submissions must include: • One image only burned on a CD: 200dpi, maximum 1 MB saved as a jpeg. • Your address, phone number, and e-mail • Title of Work, Year, Medium, Size & Value • A brief written statement about the work, maximum 50 words, saved as a Word file (.doc) on the same disk. Include a hard copy with your submission. • Non-refundable Entry Fee of $45 cheque or money order made out to: Propeller Centre for the Visual Arts. • A self addressed, stamped envelope for return of materials. Entry materials without a SASE will not be returned.
