Hey Sebby, Matthew and all;

Have a quick but important question regarding Mauth and mods in regard to setting up a server.

Firstly, It looks like I am able to get a server running on my local network, but unfortunately, I cannot connect to it because I keep getting the message on the host machine:

MAUTH: Client player not in a queue; connect refused.

I’m simply attempting to connect to the host machine by using the connect command followed by the host’s local ip address in the console of the client machine.

I’ve tried disabling mauth with the nomauth command in autoexec.cfg on both the host and client machines but this has no effect whatsoever in either case.

I’ve also tried searching for the above error text in Audio Quake’s folder structure to see where this is being generated so I can get a better idea of what is happening or how to disable mauth but I literally cannot find any part of this text, which is super weird since it has to be generated somewhere! :)

I’m also looking online and in the AQ manuals but also, no dice.

If I cannot figure out how to deal with this, it seems I am at a standstill with it. Any ideas, anyone? :)

I think my only other option at this point will be to look in the source code itself and see if that may give me any insights as to how to work with this.

Secondly, in the event that I do get the server working and accepting connections, since the server is being initiated from the Play tab of the launcher, I’m assuming this will bring up vanilla Audio Quake. If I want to start a server with the Jedi Quake mod, I’m assuming I will need to install the mod directly into the id1 folder, rather than its own jediquake folder? Is this correct?

Thanks for any help y’all can give. I would truly be appreciative! :)

Have a great day / evening!

Cheers!

Cara

Quick addendum to my last post; I also tried the -nomauth command in server.cfg but it was not recognized as the server was starting up.

Have I gotten the syntax wrong? -Or is this only meant to be a command line param?

I was looking at the launcher code a few days ago and saw where the command line to start the server (zqds.exe) was being generated, but for some strange reason, I cannot seem to find it again! lol! go figure! :)

Will keep looking I guess.

Thanks a second time for any assistance. Y’all rock!

Cheers!

Hi Cara and all,

Doing this real quick as I don't have much time: I think the best would be to discuss all this over discord. Mind sharing that invite you mentioned earlier? I could probably figure out most of your questions, at least those regarding the server side. It would require some digging into my old server archives but it should be doable.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi All,

Well, I created a little shell script to start the server with -nomauth and it seems to work somewhat.

I’m able to connect to the server running on the Mac with the Win machine but am seeing a really strange issue. Some of the standard agrip keys don’t work. I haven’t tried all of the keys yet but the ones I noticed right away are the l, m, comma, and period.

So I cannot get the open space indicator to work and even though I have the server configured to allow clients to add and remove bots, none of those keys seem to do anything. Very strange.

I’ll also be trying to start the server on the Win machine and make sure I can connect via the Mac as well and see if the same situation happens.

Anyway, to Christoff, I’m still very much up for any info you find in your own server configuration that may shed some light on this.

I’ll keep y’all up to date with what I find.

Have a terrific day / evening!

Cheers!

Hi All, happy Friday! :)

Well, I’ve made a lot of progress this week. I’ve gotten the server to run on both Mac and Win and am able to connect to both instances on the network. So far so good…

The issue that I’m finding now is that for some reason, all of my bound letter keys are not being recognized on either Mac or Windows when on the server. The config files load fine, which I know because I’ve changed my name to test this. When on the server on both Mac and Win, the new name shows up just fine.

I’ve also tried re-execing config .cfg from the console while connected to the server but no dice.

This leads me to believe that this is a server setting of some sort that I’m unaware of. Does anyone have insights on this?

I’ll continue to research this but any help anyone can offer to assist would sure sure sure be appreciated. :) I’m just not sure what setting would do something like this. I certainly don’t see anything in server.cfg which would indicate this.

It’s very very strange indeed! :)

Anyway, thanks all and have a wonderful Friday / weekend! Oh, btw, my screen name on Discord is SpaceGirl if anyone would like to say hi!

Thanks and talk with y’all soon!

Cheers!

Hi All,

Hope everyone is doing well!

I wanted to let everyone know that at last I’ve been able to get the server running nicely and I will post here when it is hosted and up continuously, so you can join if you’d like a bit of nostalgia. :)

I do have another question. For those who remember the old tbrn server, might anyone know where I can locate those maps? I unfortunately cannot remember the names of the specific maps on the server but a couple of them were very cool and I’d love to locate them. I believe I had a giant folder of maps back in the day which had some really creative maps but would not even know where to start looking now. :)

I’ll do a bit more digging of my own (perhaps Andre may have them) but if anyone may have either the names of some of those older maps or may have copies of them, that would be fantastic! :)

Thanks so much and have a wonderful day All! :)

Cheers!

Cara
