Issue running APEX

Hello

I am having issues to run APEX, but I'm not certain what is causing the problems. I'm using APEX 1501, distributed independently from ArcAPEX.

The input and output files are attached, and the message reported by the console too.

Dear Carlos,

From the information you made available, I think the problem is caused by the management file used in the third subarea. The management file is called fl_EstJsns_1.OPC and the problem is the fact that the first year of the rotation has value zero that is not accepted by the model.

Please, try to correct the value of the year for the first two operation, sort the operations by date, and try to run the model again.

Let me know if this solves the problem.

That problem was fixed after scheduling all the activities on year zero (applying fertilizers) to January 1st, year 1.

Now I am getting this other error: "fort: (3): Subscript #1 of the array TC has value 0 which is less than the lower bound of 1"

what could be causing it?

Carlos,

I replicated the error you are having in your simulation, and it seems to be related to a problem with the subarea configuration. Check again the routing and compare it to how the water should move from one subarea to the next one.

I updated the SUB file and that problem was solved! First year started running, but unfortunately, another issue showed up.

Dear Carlos,

This time, I was not able to replicate the error. From the information provided by the error message, it seems to be related to the crop growth. One easy check you can do is to open the PARM file and check if you have any value on row 20 (you should have two numbers).

If you have two values, we will have to find a way to replicate this error on my computer so I can tell you what is causing it.

I am having a different error. It happens in a different subroutine from the one you posted in your previous message. Tracing the error back in the code, it seems to be related to the standing live biomass that at some point has a negative value. The error happens in subarea 12 on year 2004, month 7, day 28 (but the standing live biomass becomes negative on day 27). I modified the subarea file removing subarea 12 and all the other subareas and the same error happened this time in subarea 4.

From the error message you posted, the problem in your case seems to be related to the crop growth, so I am wondering if, in the end, your and mine error are related.

A test you can do is to use just one subarea and run the model several times, every time with a different management of those you are using in this simulation. In this way you might be able to identify the management the is creating the error.

I followed your advice and ran each sub watershed independently to see if there was a problem with the crop management or soil data.

I found several ones that had issues running, apparently caused by some problem with the management. However, one of the operations had issues running in some areas but not in others. The only difference was the soil, so I started trying to understand what kind of problem was the soil causing. The  weird thing is that the problem seems to be originated by the thickness of the first layer. 

The soil file is "ONBDH~~~~~A.SOL"

Changing the first value from 0.13 to something else may cause APEX to crash. I checked one by one each of the possible values for the first layer, between 0.02 until 0.37. Of them, the model didn't crash with the following numbers: 0.04, 0.06, 0.09, 0.13, 0.15, 0.16, 0.17, 0.18, 0.19, 0.22, 0.23, 0.26, 0.29, 0.30, 0.31, 0.32, 0.34, 0.35, 0.36, 0.37. 

As you can see, the sequence is rather hectic. When the model crashed, it could be after one, two, three... thirteen years, or even before start running. I was not able to find any pattern there either.

The attached file contains all the information in the folder.
