The New York Night’s Watch is excited to announce the 2012 Kingsmoot in the East, New York City’s regionals event.

Date/Time: Saturday, April 28 @ 11:00am (Joust); Sunday, April 29 @ 10:00am (Melee)

Location: Citigroup Center Public Atrium, 153 E 53rd St., New York, NY 10022

Entrance Fee: $10 for Joust, $5 for melee; $12 for both (cash payable on-site)

Contacts: Rich Allison and Dan Strouhal, nightsw...@gmail.com

The competition will follow standard FFG guidelines for Joust (1v1) and Melee (multiplayer) competition. FFG lists full rules for competitive play on its website (www.fantasyflightgames.com). The Joust will include four 50-minute preliminary rounds of “Swiss” styled 1 vs. 1 pairing, with cut to top eight for quarter-finals. (The cut to top 8 regardless of tourney size is intended to ensure anyone with a good record has the chance to break to out-rounds.)

Decklists will be required for this event but will NOT be shared after the tourney. These will be used only to resolve any questions about deck legality, if needed.

Prize Support
In addition to the official FFG regionals kit, the NYC Kingsmoot in the East will award the following prizes:

--Kingsmoot in the East glass trophy for the Joust Champion
--Custom-designed, double-sided “NY Champion House Card” for both Joust and Melee champions (view photohttps://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxAvkuucRC6RZ3pHaVE5UlhUejI1c2xtNy1sdFlEQQ/edit)
--2x Gift Cards for a free chapter pack from the Compleat Strategist

For questions about the event, prizes, or legality of cards, please contact Dan with the NYC Night’s
Watch at NightsW...@gmail.com

Info on the melee? From what it sounds like the regional is a joust, and the melee is a side event -- is that correct? It is the title determined by both?

Well, the big "glass" trophy will go to the joust, but the melee will definitely be a full-fledged event on Sunday. I expect most of the people will attend both.

The fee for the joust is slightly higher, given the extra costs associated with the trophy, etc.

Melee will most likely be 3 rounds + finals...just like the DC tourney. We'll have full prizes for the melee as well.

Best,
Dan

So the regional title is just the joust?

Oh--you mean for the sake of the World Championship Free Entry prize + whatever other swag? I'm actually not sure how we'll handle that. I'll discuss with the person who's actually running this (Rich) and circle back.

I suspect what we'll do for the trophies is, for equity sake, award the Kingsmoot of the East glass trophy to the joust player, and the kit trophy (typically a less impressive plastic "Regionals Champion" trophy) to the melee.

All the details, however, are yet to be confirmed. Either way, we'll have enough prize support for both.

Are you figuring an overall champ from both events for the bye at nationals? Or is it going to the joust champ only?

Hi Erick,

As Jim (OrangeDragon) mentioned on the FFG thread, joust will be the "Regional Champion" but we will have a decent amount of prize support for the melee too. I really hope people show for the melee...melee is becoming much more fun these days.

As an aside, I see that two Targ maester decks took 1st and 2nd at the recent Spanish "weekly" tourney (20 participants). The novelty of that build is beginning to wear off...I may need to look elsewhere for a regionals joust deck :(

Cheers,
Dan

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.

And as to Dan Strouhal not playing Targaryen in a tournament when Targaryen is good -- well, we'll see on the morning of the tourney whether there are any pigs to be seen doing a flyby of Manhattan. :-P

It won't matter, it'll be a junky build of Targ anyway. ;-)

~Hey, man. They're great on setup and good claim soak.

In all seriousness, I can personally attest that they are great in a Targ mirror matchup, but otherwise rather blah.

Hey--don't trash the shadow parasites. I think the current iteration of my deck plays 3x those and 0x Shadow Seers. Man, really wish those Seers were bicons...that lonely intrigue icon is pretty annoying (even if it's balanced). Also, I'm sure there will be plenty of Targ this time around, so they're going to be pulling their weight.

Chances are I'll be playing Targ, though I'll also point out that I played Martell and Targ before they were considered good (Martell first, then Targ), and played maesters at regionals last year when only 2 chains were out and few others were playing it. Basically, the underdog houses are fun...though I just can't bring myself to play Bara or Lanni this year to continue the trend. Maybe I'll build something "junky" like Targ armies and see how it does?

By the way, if anyone is looking for anti-Targ tech, consider Dissension. My Targ deck is comprised of like 3/4 allies or refugees. It's really quite sad how consistent Dissension is against my deck.

Those of us following Corey's deckbuilding tips likely already have 2-3 copies in ours.

I think I may actually be able to come in to the city for this. I have gotten a couple other guys playing out here in PA so I'll ask them if they want to come. We probably wouldn't be able to stay for the melee, and probably would head back after the joust, unless I come alone, then I may stay and visit friends sat night.

I doubt my deck will be any good, but should still be entertaining...

I probably will not make it, my supervisor had denied any vacation from now til November. We've been doing weekend work since February. Not to mention that I haven't played a single game since Black Friday (AFAIK).

Sorry.

Hey all, just seeing once again if anyone is strapped for a night or two nearish the place where the event is being held. I know this is late notice, but two people I was expecting canceled and so two more spots opened up (actually, was expecting only one of those other people, but was surprised by the possibility of another). Anyway, I'd appreciate it if anyone needed or wanted a place to stay, but if not, I guess I'll bury the nearly $500 and definitely not get a room for anyone else in the future, lesson learned. :)

Yep. Still going to be quite expensive for me - I was told well before you contacted me that there'd be interest for others, so I decided to get something close enough to the place that it was easy. :) Oh well. Thanks though.

Have you already paid? If not, maybe you can cancel (or ask for a refund) and look for a cheaper place?

Always nice to save some cash...just a thought.

Good thought, but no, non-refundable. It's probably not paid already, because they usually wait to see if any other expenses are going to come up, but I'd already thought about that. Thanks though.

Just for the record, though I expressed interest in sharing the room, I never actually committed to coming because I suck at making a final decision. So to say I canceled on you is a tad harsh in my opinion :)

ya i hear ya. its a complaint i hear alot actually (mainly from my wife :P). i hate committing to anything more than 15 minutes beforehand because then i feel annoyed that i have an obligation hanging over me. im pretty sure the decision whether or not to come will be made on my way home from work on friday night when i approach the highway onramp. East to home, West to regionals :)    Just hope i remember to back a bag and build a deck thursday night :P

Not sure if Dennis Harrision is dcdennis (or if dcdennis is on this list) but I one of his Frozen Solid from the final game.

Dennis, if you're on this list please contact me so we can arrange getting it back to you.  If not, if one of the DC guys on this list could let him know or give me his e-mail address, I'd appreciate it.
