Diego Museum of Art, THURSDAY, AUGUST 18 at 7 PM, with Jericho Brown.
In conjunction with Agitprop Gallery, the Agitprop Reading Series is collaborating
with the San Diego Museum of Art to present Thursday
Summer Salons featuring contemporary artists
and writers from Southern California. Museum admission is $12 for adults, $8
for students with college ID, and open to the public. The reading will take
place in Gallery 18.
Jericho Brown teaches creative writing as an assistant professor of English at
the University of San Diego. His first book of poems,
Please (New Issues/Western Michigan
University, 2008), explores the intersection of love and violence through an
examination of the history and culture that surround African American male
identity and sexuality. The recipient of two travel fellowships to the Krakow
Poetry Seminar in Poland, Brown has served as poetry editor at Gulf Coast and assistant poetry
editor at Callaloo. His poems have appeared
in the Iowa Review, jubilat, New England Review, the Oxford American, and several other
journals and anthologies. Brown worked as a speechwriter for the mayor of New
Orleans before earning his PhD in creative writing and literature from the
University of Houston.
