I've found these posts on the stafford Forum.

http://www.staffordforum.com/xf/index.php?threads/stafford-ale-house.8933/page-15

From what I have read, people have said that staff were fired by text message.

A new venue appears to be required

Regards,
Jon

Only option that I know about is:

Does anyone know whether the University would have any facilities we could use?

Regards,

Paul.

No, it doesn't have to be Stafford, as far as I am concerned anyhow :D.

It was only Stafford originally so that I could stagger home drunk.

I looked at Odd Fellow's  Hall back in the day and they charge considerably. That pub near the court house was my second option.

The Pie and Ale House had been through more changes than I've had pints there, shame as it was a great venue.

By the court house... Do you mean the bird in hand? That closed down briefly and has since reopened.

Our do you mean chambers ( was hogs head) but that closed last year.

Stafford is easier for me, but given I drive and don't drink. It makes little systems to me. With a clear motorway I can get to j15 in 20mins.

Jon

Oh dear, sounds like they've all closed since I left, hope that's a coincidence.

Doesn't have to be Stafford for me. However, mid staffordshire would be better for me than further north. Stafford is about an hours drive north from Lichfield. Looking at the maps, mid staffs covers roughly Eccleshall, Stafford, Stone, Rugeley and Uttoxeter.

If Eccleshall is acceptable there is a pub just off the high street that has an isolated upstairs snug that is probably ideal for us on an informal night though probably not as useful on a workshop night.

(can't remember the name of the pub at the moment, will find it when I get home this evening)

If not, I know a place right next to uni that has 2 large conferencing room and 2 smaller ones. There is a kitchen, but the place has no alcohol license so you might have to bring your own. Also small pool table and a table tennis table.
It is run by a church, but they do rent it out to people and I know the people that run the place. In fact I helped them setting up their wireless network.
The place is called Beacon International Centre http://www.beaconinternationalcentre.org
I did ask them about it when Pie & Ale last shut down. They were ok with it but you guys already found a spot so I have not mentioned.

Hi all,
Personally I'd like to keep meetings in the Stafford area, or at least nearby. That way we can accommodate current attendees.

The oddfellows hall will cost money and consider we could do without that complication - I called them last time.

The Morris Man - is an outsider, but was less than ideal.

I followed up the tip, from Roland, and called the Beacon Centre this lunch time and had this reply: (Snipped for brevity)

"Anyway, yes we would love to have the opportunity to host your Computer User Group monthly meetings, We currently have availability for the next 6 months on a third Thursday evening. I can offer a choice of rooms, either our Tower Room at £55.00 per 4 hours or our Room 3 at £50.00. Teas and coffees can be served at £1.00 per serving. All prices are exclusive of VAT.
If you would like to visit our website (www.staffordbeacon.co.uk) .....
Best regards
Andy Oxlade
Centre Manager
"

Rob - the pub in Eccleshall sounds promising. It may suffice for this month at least.

Please feel free to make contact with any venue you think may work for us. I simply tell people that we meet on the last Thursday of each month and have any number between about 8 and 20. Wi-fi is preferable.

Regards,
Neil.

The pub is the smithy in Eccleshall.

I'll head over today to see if they can accommodate us.

I will give them a ring tomorrow, got slightly side tracked last week.

I quit the Synergy job on Wednesday and was interviewing Thurs and Friday and now back into work as a contractor again.  Life is never dull.

It should be ok, I just can’t remember the size of the snug, if I remember correctly, it is big enough.  Will probably have to nip in for a swift half to be sure.
