Hi,
It has been over a month since the last update when we had the first episode of software craftsmanship series with Michael Cheng sharing his experience.
Lately, I’ve co-organised an Agile SG workshop called Problem Solving Leadership by Esther Derby and Don Gray held in Bangkok. The majority of the people were from Singapore followed by Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and Taiwan with a variety of backgrounds i.e. developer, analyst, manager, coach, design. During the week-long workshop, we have learned to develop new ways of looking at and solving problems. The leader here does not refer to a position; leadership can come from anyone.
Some quotes I noted:
“Leadership is not how to get everyone to work hard”
“Learning from other’s doing is an act of leadership”
“One person might be pegged as the problem, but it is the system”
“If you insert something (e.g. new process/practice) without changing the underlying system, you’ll get it ejected or it becomes superficial”
“… we decide the architecture when we know least about the problem”
It was a fruitful and enjoyable learning journey. You may learn more about the workshop
here and check out some photos of the event at our
Facebook page.
What’s next? With the covid situation, we’ll switch to online events for the time being. There is something new I’ve been wanting to try, it’ll probably happen in the first half of March and the topic will be related to technical practices. Stay tuned!
