Pillar’s Story Mapping & Story Breakdown Class

Hello fellow Agile Iowa Group participant,

Business Analysts, Product Owners and Project Managers sometimes have a harder time making the adjustment to Agile techniques to express requirements. Pillar has put together a four-hour class to practice Story Mapping and Story Breakdown addressing that very situation.

The class attendees will break out into small three and four person teams working on the projects you bring into the class. Teams from companies will work together to address your specific project needs.

The art to understanding what you want to build can be summarized by focusing on the value it creates and by capturing the vision of the user.   The best tool developed, thus far, to capture these needs is a Story Map.  This tool is easily learned and implemented.  

Once you build a Story Map, then we will use additional tools to decompose the story cards we have created

The process we will use is to: 

Define Value Story

List Epics

Build Story Map - Tape on wall

List Primary Personas

Add Features, left to right as walk through how a persona would use app

Decompose features breadth left to right, depth (In priority sequence) top to bottom

Identify the cards to be completed in each phase and the minimum marketable features
