Hi all,

Does anyone know of a "game" or interactive training technique for the 5 Scrum Values?
I know of games for some individual practices but I'm looking for something that will get all 5 known and clear.

Thanks
Sam

Sam:

Wondering if you have seen Lyssa Adkins "High Performance Tree" exercise?

aaaah - thanks Mark! I had seen this before but forgotten about it ;)

I was looking for something to do under 10 minutes, and did come up with something - not quite a game - but interactive.

I created 5 cards - one for each of the values with a photo and the word on it. On the back a sentence or 2 describing it. There is also a blank Flipchart sheet with the photo on it in a corner.
I hand out the cards and give the group 5 minutes to read through them and create a sticky for 1 or morevalues (as many as possible) with a situation they experienced that shows that value.

After 5 minutes is up, go through each value, and ask  each person to share their sticky for that value - if they have one - and stick them onto the appropriate flipchart sheet.

What do you guys think?

Hi Sam,
I like your approach but what about this:

- Introduce the values (shortly)
- Let the audience self organize into five groups
- Each group picks one value
- Now each group has to create a picture of this value. set a timebox of 10 minutes for that
- Let the groups share the pictures, let a speaker of a group explain what they draw and why

What do you think?

Best,
Björn

I like that (which means I'll steal your idea) - thanks!
I think I will use that for larger groups and for less than 5 people go the other route...

And if you have more time (~60-120min):
- intro values (Xp, Scrum, lean SW or others; variety is key) ~10-15min
- get them to vote on their top 5-7 values that resonate for them ~10-15min
- write one value per flip chart and post around the room ~5min
- ask them list current challenges (variety of ways to do this; can round-robin shout out or have them capture on index cards) ~5-10min
- as you examine each challenge, ask each person to move to the flipchart of the value missing the most and put a hash mark with a marker; pick one person from smallest group & one from largest to explain their choice; debrief with group ~5-10min/challenge
- after everyone has brought up 1 challenge , ask the team to look around at the hash marks on the value flip charts;  where do they see more/less marks? What does that tell them?  What do they want to do different?
