Hi,

I'm looking for a way to run the Penny Game ( https://www.tastycupcakes.org/2013/05/the-penny-game/ ) online.
Participants will already be using Zoom and Miro.

The mechanics require a way to toggle the state of tokens that can be grouped into batches of different size per round with a way to pass batches to the next person. It's easy enough to pass things between players on a Miro board. The bit that I have not thought of a way to do is the toggling between heads and tails in a way that is better than typing a H over the top of a T and visa versa.

I've found a couple of custom coded apps:

Loading the page to enter your player name seems very slow and the eventual page unresponsive. Has anyone else had this work?

The demo site at RemotelyFlipped.com appears to have been offline for at least 2 years.
The source code is available but I have limited time for troubleshooting if it doesn't work out-of-the-box.

Has anyone else run the Penny Game online?

If not, any ideas on how to?

Thanks in advance,
Rowan.

Hi Rowan,

You can just change the colour. Set up the Miro with separate designated areas for the number of people you have playing. You may also want to use a smaller number of ‘coins’ to start as it can be slower than actually flipping coins as people use 2 hands. If you start with 20 it can take too long and get boring.

Let me know if you want to chat about it as I’ve run it a few times.

Cheers
Stuart

If you replace coins with regular cards, then this site might be helpful: http://playingcards.io/

It allows you to create your own card games, with a set of card of your choice (you can even design the back and the front of the cards). You got some placeholders to keep the cards stacked when you need this. You can simulate more players. Use the briefcase icon to enter configuration.

I set up for you a very simple example of the game you are interested in.

The link is valid only for 2 weeks, if you do not visit it. But there is a way of exporting the configuration and then importing it again, so you can restore the game easily from your local saved file.

Be aware that in some environments this site might be filtered out by corporate firewalls.

Regards,
Sorin
