Release and Iteration Planning Workshop (Rescheduled)- Erik Huddleston
(Inovis) and Walter Bodwell (Planigle)
This workshop is being offered both Saturday and Sunday. If you
contacted me as part of the reschedule from Hurricane Ike then you
will find you are already signed up. Please double check that your
name appears on the roster. If you're a member of Agile Austin you
can sign-up at today at:
http://agileaustinworkshops4.eventbrite.com (Saturday Nov 8th, 2p -
5p @ ACC Highland Business Campus)
http://agileaustinworkshops5.eventbrite.com (Sunday Nov 9th, 2p - 5p
@ BMC Software)
Both of these sessions are presenting the same material - you only
need to attend *one* of the sessions! We are offering two to
accommodate the high demand experienced last round. (Saturday is
nearly full).
Part 1: Release Planning
-Goals of release planning
-Anti-goals of release planning (i.e., things you're not trying to
accomplish)
-Preparation for release planning
-Setting the stage
-Laying out the release
-Summing it up
-Carrying it forward
Part 2: Iteration Planning
-Overview of a sprint planning session (steps, stages, and time
requirements)
-Prerequisites for a successful planning session: what needs to be
done BEFORE a planning session starts
-The prioritized backlog: a quick digression on the importance of PO
homework
-Velocity and the prestaged sprint backlog: How to come into a sprint
planning session knowing what to expect
-Presenting the stories: explaining the stories and defects (with an
emphasis on acceptance criteria and interactive elaboration of
requirements)
-Estimating a story: A minor digression on estimation and when it
shows up in a planning session
-Tasking it out: Figuring out what has to get done and ensuring
nothing falls through the cracks
-Thy cup runneth over: How to deal with the end of sprint planning
when story points or task hours exceed capacity
Space is limited and this workshop sold out last time. Please make
sure you can attend before you sign-up, so that we have opportunities
for everyone who's genuinely interested in attending.
