Workshop Description:

Cheaper Than an Off-Site: How to hold effective retrospectives that improve team collaboration and performance.

Perhaps you've heard of retrospectives and wonder how yet another meeting could be worthwhile. Maybe you're a believer in retrospectives and want to bring that benefit to your team. Or maybe your team has a
regular rhythm of retrospectives and is up for learning some strategies to inject them with new vitality.

For an agile software team, a retrospective is a regularly recurring meeting where the team discusses how they work together and decides how they will improve that work. In this interactive three-hour workshop, Suzy Bates and Sharon Cichelli will lead the group to explore why retrospectives are an essential behavior for an effective team, the hallmarks of healthy, constructive retrospectives, and creative techniques for encouraging your team to share their ideas and act on them. The workshop will be hands-on, with plenty of opportunities for participants to contribute and to experiment with different styles of retrospectives. All experience levels are welcome.

Facilitators:

Suzy Bates

Suzy has worked in software from the perspective of the developer, implementer, consultant, buyer and owner.  She has helped to introduce Agile practices at Cricket Communications as the Scrum Master and at Pointserve as the Product Manager/Owner.  She also learned a lifetime of Agile in 4 short months at Dovetail Software.  Although currently looking for a new position, she is using her time to expand on Agile practices and share her knowledge.

Sharon Cichelli

Sharon Cichelli is a software developer and writer who started at Dell back when Microsoft Solutions Framework was the cool way to manage projects. Two years ago she helped introduce Scrum at Dell through presentations, training, and using the Scrum process and philosophies to develop software with a globally distributed team. Last year she joined the agile development team at Teres Solutions. Sharon's insights on agile and team dynamics can be found on her blog, Girl Writes Code, at http://www.invisible-city.com/sharon/.
