DevOps SIG - What is the future of SLAs in the DevOps world?

**********NOTE NEW VENUE DURING CONSTRUCTION************

The SLA is a classic mechanism for measuring how services are provided / consumed. It is usually a part of a relatively transactional structure. Even inside the same company, the notion is still a customer/vendor type relationship where each is incented to 'get the most bang for the buck'. Which on the consumer side means demand more and on the provider side means keep costs low per customer. The SLA basically dictates the minimum / least common denominator target in that business relationship.

That setup may be great for keeping costs down and mediocrity up, but it can play hell with collaboration and really be a major source of 'us v. them' conflicts. And that's where DevOps comes in. Collaborative culture is much less likely to thrive in a typical setup, but the business still needs to know how well things are going. This month we are going to discuss how this is being handled today and ideas for how to handle it in the future.

We will do a Lean Coffee discussion, so come prepared to discuss:

* What role SLAs have in a DevOps world
* If not an SLA to manage goal achievement, then what?
* If you are stuck in a classic IT 'shared service' environment, how do you get around structures like this?
* Other classic metrics that are problematic in DevOps
* Other topic-related items you think are important

Hope to see you there!

Best,

Dan
