Thanks everyone for attending the September Dev SIG. Since there was not much content on the slides, I thought I would instead post some notes of what we discussed...
Steve Donie presented a brief overview of Mockito
The group discussed using Mockito (for Java) and also that Spock for mocking as perhaps a better replacement. Also mentioned was PowerMock.
We also discussed that too much mocking is a sign of a poor Design. Also, we discussed "Why use mocks at all".
Finally, the group selected a top 3 from a proposed set of topics and we have a new backlog of topics to discuss.
1. Tech Debt - An introduction to a game that help demonstrate different strategies for tackling tech debt.
2. Modern Javascript - Node.js, client-side MVC (Angular, BackBone, Ember), etc.
3. Generalists and Specialists - How to follow Agile without everyone becoming generalists.
The rest of the backlog includes:
Virtualization for Developers - How can VMs make you a more productive developer
Emerging Best practices for applying Agile/Scrum
Estimation - It shouldn’t be so hard, but it can be.
Rapid-Fire Questions (and Answers) (see the latest DevOpsSIG, stealing the idea)
Emerging Languages - not strictly languages, but more broadly concepts that seem new and promising as seen in emerging languages.
Spock for Mocking
Guice for Dependency Injection
