Hey All,

I was in Perth last week where Mike Allen (Racing & Wagering WA) and Claire Pitchford (TW) organised an Agile Interest Group meeting under the banner of AAA. It was a great session with around 25 people attending. Mike used the meeting to get a sense of the interests of the community in Perth, plan future meetings, and generally start to build a community by taking everyone to the pub! : )

I think it would be a good idea to host similar sessions in each city to find out what the community wants from AAA and to keep things moving. If there is an appetite then I'm happy to host a Melbourne AAA meeting in the TW offices. I've also spoken to some of our folk in Sydney and they are happy to do the same. Of course the holiday season is going to complicate things so it may be best to aim for the new year....

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Rich

Hi Rich and all,

I’m in favour, when I was in London around 2001 it was a common theme to have a meeting with presentations followed by pub networking afterwards – their Agile Interest Group was very large.

Email always has it’s limitations although I’ve reading the threads with interest as they come through – probably a lot of people are without necessarily feeling the need to contribute.

If TW donate their offices then it’s a great (free) way to get us together. I’m can also potentially organize a post working hours meeting location in Melb for a meet in the future.

cheers

I think rotating around different company offices is a great idea. It takes the pressure off any one person to organise the sessions and of course it gives everyone a chance to take a sneaky peak at what other teams are up to and get a sense of their work environments. It also means we're less likely to always go to the same pub...

I agree with the rotation idea.  I know Sensis would be very happy to host a Melbourne meeting.

Cogent would be happy to host in Melbourne as well, but you need to come out of the city to deepest darkest Collingwood. Though not the truly deepest, darkest part.

Excellent! Looks like we have no shortage of venues.

I could talk to Claire and see if she could organise a kick-off meeting in late January for Melbourne? If we pool our resources we should be able to rally the Agile community across TW, IL, Sensis, Cogent, NAB, ANZ, Lonely Planet, Suncorp etc... and work out where we want to go.

I'd suggest a similar structure to the one Mike used for the first meeting; just get an idea of what people want to get out of the group, frequency and locations of meets.

Hi everyone

Happy New Year. The Agile Academy as part of Suncorp has already set
up a Brisbane Agile Meetup group so perhaps this could be used in
conjunction with AAA so that we don't dilute the pool but bring all
Agile groups in Brisbane together. We should be happy to provide a
room at Brisbane Square.

Hi all,

I have offered to help setup the initial Sydney meeting.  I am coordinating with Suncorp to arrange this gathering on the 28 Jan 2010 at their Kent St office from 5.30PM to 7.30PM

The current plan is to have:
- beer and pizza
- a couple of speakers for short talks
- a discussion / brainstorm / fishbowl on how we run the Sydney group
- adjourn to the pub to some serious talk and beer drinking

I will post the invite with all of the details in the next day or two.

I have also created a Meetup group to help coordinate attendance to this and future meetings.  I will also post all of the details to this.  Please feel free to pass this on to everyone who might be interested.

Please sign up and register for the event!

Thanks
Daragh

Hey All,

I'm about to copy pretty much everything Daragh did below and organise a meet-up for 2nd Feb at 17:30 in the ThoughtWorks Melbourne office.

I'll keep the agenda pretty much the same, with some airtime for Steve and Mark to talk at the beginning about AA formalities if they want/need it.

Thanks,

Rich
