Position Overview
This Sustainable Community Prosperity position, based in St. Clair/Port Huron Counties, will have state-wide programming responsibilities with a focus of educational program delivery in eastern Michigan, District 10 (Huron, Tuscola, Sanilac, Lapeer, and St. Clair Counties).
This is a full-time, fixed-term position, renewable on an annual basis, for which funding and performance are factors in consideration of renewal.
The position provides leadership for and serves as the primary education coordinator to foster sustainable economic development, community prosperity and the protection and utilization of the natural resources of Michigan.
Responsibilities
· Promote and deliver Sustaining Community Prosperity workgroup education programs in District 10 (Michigan’s thumb), including entrepreneurship education, community food systems education and development, food and natural resources enterprise development, place making in developing sustainable economies, green community planning and design, cultural economic development, and/or sustainable tourism.
· Assist in connecting Michigan communities with “Sustainable Communities” curriculum.
· Facilitate the connection of MSUE resources with local government and community.
· Assist in facilitating community food opportunities with I-69 Food Corridor and Metro Foods initiatives.
· Provide small business assistance, with referrals to SBTDC, MSU Product Center, and/or other resources as appropriate.
· Encourage youth entrepreneurship development through existing MSUE curricula.
· Promote business networking connections (e.g. entrepreneurship club, young professional group) that strengthen regional social capital.
· Explore tourism education programs, including coordination, as appropriate, with MSU Sea Grant Coastal Communities initiative.
Qualifications
· Master's degree with an educational or professional emphasis in the field of business, public administration, finance, economic development, planning or other area directly related to fulfilling the responsibilities of the position
· Experience in coordinating/implementing training sessions
· Demonstrated ability in program evaluation and research
· Proficiency in word processing, database, and presentation software and equipment
· Competence in using technology for program delivery, record keeping and reporting, and team-based communications
· Exceptional oral and written communication skills
· Demonstrated ability to develop and manage multiple components of a work plan
· Experience with marketing/promotion of educational programs
· Effective interpersonal skills
· Effective organizational skills
· An understanding and commitment to equal access and opportunity and to diversity and inclusivity
· Ability to travel throughout Michigan
