Animate still images and illustrations to create striking motion graphics. Add motion to text for cinematic title sequences and simple credit rolls. Work faster with presets or turn your unique vision into reality with power animation tools.
Bring dimension into your videos in a true 3D workspace right inside After Effects. Get the lighting and shading just right for a realistic look. Or combine 2D and 3D images to create any scene you can imagine.
Get inspired with a wide selection of built-in effects or customize your own. Make it storm. Add lasers. Or even pop a spinning UFO into a tracking shot. Turn any idea into an effect your audience will never forget.
When I'm doing a tracking of a small area and tracking of a slow movement it takes more than a minute to move from frame to frame. I do not see any CPU usage or memory usage while tracking, looks like it does nothing all the time and only the last second create a point and move to another frame.
The speed of the tracker depends entirely on how big the feature area and search area are. The codec of the original footage can also influence the time it takes to analyze a frame. MP4 compressed movies are interframe compressed so the CPU has to figure out where the pixels go in the in-between frames and create them before they can be tracked. Visually lossless formats don't have that issue. Every frame contains all the data in a frame, so every operation in AE that is looking at the pixels in the frame will be faster when you use formats that are not using GOP compression (Group of pictures). All MPEG compression uses some kind of GOP compression and it not very suitable for production.
Hi. I have similar issue in cc2020, 17.0.5 build 16, but reducing the tracker search area only improve speed a little. I' ve tried to reset prefs but didn't help. I'm lost with this, because in an older machine with cc2018 tracking motion is really faster. Please a need some help. Could it be related to the graphics card drivers, or maybe to any plugin i have installed? My nvidia drivers are up to date, is there maybe any concrete version of the driver working better?
This unbearable times of the tracker has nothing to do with the search area size, in my case after a clean reinstall of windows 10 and after effects cc2020, began installing one by one every driver and program and trying the tracker after every single install. After this i found that what has been causing this problem was the program Acronis True Image 2019. Only needed to deactivate the Real Time protection and voila! Tracker worked perfectly again. Hope your problem is the same, otherwise you'll need to investigate what program is causing you the problem. If you are using a pen tablet check the drivers too, in my case the Wacom Bamboo mte450 driver was causing a little slow down on after effects too. Good luck!
Same issue here. I also reinstalled Windows 10 and formatted all my hard disks. complete fresh start. First thing i did was tested the tracker and its just as slow as before.. after installing my gpu driver its still slow. I dont have any programs installed. this is driving me crazy i invested in a 2,5k video-editing desktop and then stuff like this happens.. do you have any tips?
I have the same issue and just realized what's causing it. See if this helps you. It's basically my wacom pen. I have the latest driver, but still, it is slow, and it's like exponentially slow, in the sense that the first frame it's like 1-2 sec, then the next frame is 2-4 sec, and it just grows.
Wow, Spot on - thanks a bunch Gasanfar! I have the same issue with Acronis True Image 2020, but once I turned off active protection my AE motion tracking speeds are back to normal. I initially had a feeling that active protection might slow my computer down a bit, but I totally forgot about it and probably would've never thought these two issues were related.
@Gasanfar, you are a life saver. I think Acronis would have been one of the last things I would have blamed. Unfortunately just disabling protection did not help for me. I had to kill processes all the time or as I did afterwards, just uninstalled Acronis.
I have a custom workspace set up in AE. However, every time my project autosaves and sometimes when I import new assets all the panels resize, some crush up to one side, some spread wide in the middle. On some occasions, panels will even disappear.
It used to be that I could reset to saved workspace and it would correct itself - though this is tedious when I have to do it after every autosave - but since the CC2018 update, this no longer works. It seems like AE isn't saving my layout but is saving this squashed and stretched layout instead and I can't overwrite it.
Too bad, I've had this problem for a long time - for some reason my current project is doing it almost constantly, very annoying and time delaying. When I move things back to where they should be I even do 'save changes to current workspace' but it still whacks out.
I have been having this problem for a long time. This is on both computers I use both are always updated to most recent version of AE. One has Windows 10 Pro, the other Home. Both have dual monitor setup. One has 2 1920*1080 the other has 1920*1080 and 4k.
Almost any time I load a project, import an asset, or AE does something that takes a few seconds my panels are resized thinner and sometimes AE loses full screen. This only happens with AE, not any other Adobe products or any other programs.
I am experiencing the same problem. I am really getting fed up of adobe with all these bugs when they release a new update for their programs. I hope they find a solution really soon as in now cause i am already researching for another program to switch to, I DON'T NEED ANY HEADACHES RIGHT NOW IN MY LIFE AND ADOBE SEEMS TO BE A VERY BIG ONE!!!!!
Adobe has got me extremely scared to do any updates but the way their programs are working after i did the last update i can't wait for their next update hoping it will correct all these bugs that I am experiencing now which makes Adobe soft wares a nightmare to work with. Once i find a working update i am never really gonna update my software in a hurry unless there is a major additional feature that will benefit me. That is if I am still using adobe software cause at this rate I am not sure how long i will be staying with them.
Dont forget that for AfterEffects, the projects themselves save the workspace information. This means that if you save a project it also remembers what workspace settings were on at the time you saved that project. Then, when you try to open that project, it also tries to set that workspace.
This causes some confusion because for other Adobe apps, the files themselves do not save workspace layouts. You might be setting a custom workspace yourself but if you open a project that had a different workspace it will override that as soon as you open the project.
I suspect that this feature could be the cause of some of the confusion on this thread. Projects not only hold project files, videos etc... they also hold the workspace that was used when you last saved them.
This happened to me. I'd open it and do a little thing and try and save and it would work, but then I would do a bunch of stuff and all File > things like save, import etc stopped working. Reset my computer etc etc and would start working again and same thing would happen. Redid the same thing 5 times.
Here is a script I just wrote for you which will try to save your project programmatically. Save the following text to a file with a .jsx extension, like "save.jsx". To execute the script, go to File -> Scripts -> Run Scripts File... and type the filename you saved the script as. If it works it'll save your project to a file named "testsave.aep", probably in the save directory as where you saved the script to. Please report whether or not it works.
Today I just redid about half that work, and AE started going slow so I tried to save and quit but now it won't even SAVE, AND it won't quit unless I force quit. Incredibly disturbing that I could lose all this time and effort. I don't know how to fix it.
I'm having this problem as of today (Aug. 19th 2020) as well. The project simply will not save. I don't know what's going on. It also will not let me close the program either. I had to do a crappy, screen recording to get a "export" of my project so I don't completely loose proof everything I've created. Adobe, what is wrong with your company?? I've never experienced as many insane issues with so many products from on paticular company as I have with Adobe software.
Sorry for your loss. I had this exact - and wicked frustrating - problem a couple weeks ago. Tried everything, nothing worked. It was maddening. What I ultimately had to do was quit, lose all my work, download the latest update of AE, and THEN it started saving again. AFTER I lost all my work, which I had to redo every part of. The moment I notice this problem again in the future, the first thing I'm doing is downloading the program immediately.
This has also been happening to me a couple of times now. Usually it just magically starts working the next time, or when I restart my computer. Same with Photoshop! Would be good to have these save issue fixed cuz it's a real bummer.
Longtime After Effects user (20+ yrs), never encounter this issue where it will not save project. Threw me a major curveball end of day yesterday because I didn't even realize it wasn't saving either my manual saves (I'm pretty consistent about manually saving every 15-20 minutes) or auto saves... even though the ususal prompt window was appearing and telling me it was saving. Did my usual Command-S and Command-Q end of day and was confused why AE was still open this morning. Shrugged it off, did a bunch of work then realized after a 'Save', then noticed the block in upper left red close button indicating file was unsaved. Ended up Force Quitting and lost about a combined 3 hrs work.
ANYWAY this is all leading up to say... I did the handoff to Encoder 'workaround Save'. Wanted to share a shortcut to finding file in Temp window short of going thru Terminal. You can right click Project Name in ME cue and there is a 'Reveal Source File' option that'll take you to the temp fiile.
