QUOTE: Despite our extensive attempts to draw their attention in this matter and our repeated discussions and pleas , they (airlines)  refuse to resolve our issues.UNQUOTE

It is is amusing to read an impassioned mail (pleading helplessness!)from leading Travel Association, urging members to join the "leadership" in closing their offices on the 7th of May, 2013. Aren’t these the same people, who crawled, when asked to bend? Aren’t these the same people who magnanimously, agreed for 3% and then 1%, when the industry cried foul? Naturally now the Airlines will not listen to you.

QUOTE:As TAAI, we have spent considerable time in exploring legal initiatives. All of us are aware that any legal solution takes considerable time.UNQUOTE

Reportedly, TAAI & TAFI had agreed to approach the appellate authority, before the Karnataka High Court. Having slept over it, one can only claim helplessness. There have been litigations from IAAI and others, why not support them? Even now there are pending cases why not jointly fight it out? One hears that IAAI has been seeking your support and affidavits, but you refused to give. Why?

Gentlemen, in the  humble opinion of A4A, we are barking up the wrong tree. No difference will be felt if some offices are closed. Because, there are the OTAs and many other agents will keep their offices open or work from home. This tokenism,  if at all, is meant to show the public, that they are doing something… nothing more, nothing less…

Meanwhile, please also see the mail from one of the Chairpersons of TAAI, attached below, which is very revealing;

QUOTE: As I told you in my conversation I have been told by TAFI and OTA's that they are not participating in the same. Please advise if this is true. Unless that happens TAAI will become a mockery. UNQUOTE

Yes, the whole exercise has become a mockery. Even the Jagore is a mokery, where the ledership, who are supposed to take firm stand and lead the associations are sitting among audience and as per one of the participants, did not have any concrete suggestions ! Now, the same bunch is hiding behind  “jagore” and sending ANONYMOUS letters to Airlines (See the mail appended mail below) !

Gentlemen, if there is a will, there certainly is a way. Our destiny is in OUR HANDS and NOT in the hands of the AIRLINES…. Let us face the situation squarely and in a manly fashion. We must negotiate from a position of strength and that we have  in APJC.

Put competent people in APJC. IATA resolutions are always country specific and we can and must ensure this. Unfortunately the present lot at APJC are either ignorant or spineless. When we are under 818g, they fool the agents saying we are governed by 810i ! When there is provision for 9 Agents representatives, they restrict it (illegally) to 7 so that no competent people come into this exclusive club !

Instead of enacting a farce of closing, writing letters, DEMAND from your leadership, to re-constitute the APJC as per 818g with 18 members (9+9). Let all the resolutions be country specific. Let there be demand to ensure that the law of the land is obeyed and let not the Airlines be a law unto themselves.

This is the least that this movement can do and the results will be there to see…

Regards

A4A

Dear Friends,

While these agitational programs be kept on, we really need to think about our
plans and actions on long term basis which will give a permanent solution to our
woos. We need to identify the root cause of the problems faced by us every now and
then. And that is our IATA agreement - which we all know is totally ONE-SIDED.

One day strike, going slow on a particular airline staff etc. will not solve all
our problems. Pleading with Airline sales staff, or the Government or going on
Hunger strike would not be a very good idea.

Why should we plead with someone for our survival ? Why should we beg for some
thing for doing business ?

We have ( the Agent's network ) ability, qualified staff, expertise, great
infrastructure and still we are PLEADING AND BEGGING.

Inspite of being in such fantastic position, the entire travel agents fraternity
is helpless. So, let's DISCARD this agreement and draft out with a strong '
Passenger Sales Agreement ' and make airlines to " RECOGNIZE, ACCEPT THAT BY
SIGNING IT " OR LEAVE IT. We will sell only those airline who sign it. LCC's would
certainly accept it. I am sure sooner or the later other airlines would follow.
( Infact, our non IATA agents are much happier and doing well with LCC.)

For doing all this, the Core Committee or TAAI, TAFI, IAAI ( leaving aside the
differences, if any, among themselves )or any other Committee acceptable to all
Agents start drafting out a fresh agreement ASAP after getting INPUTs from the
agents. This must be done in a time bound frame work, say with in next 3 months.
The final draft should be approved by the General Body of Agents, preferably
before 31st August this year and sent to all airlines for acceptance with a cut
off date of 01 Oct. 2013. IATA agreement will naturally be discarded from that
date. Let's show to the other parts of the world that ' we can do it and have done
it '

This will put an ' END ' to all our problems and we will see better and prosperous
days ahead.

Good luck to all.

My request ischannelizeall this momentum in a more organised manner, the Core

Dear all travel agent friends

Yes it is a matter of our survival and it is really hieght of adamant attitude
of airlines who are least bothered about us. So it seems dialogue is not the
solution.

Legal course takes its own time and by the time any result comes half of us
won't be there alive.

It is very encouraging that travel fraternity all over india is now
awake and fighting for their right and finally seems to be united.

So freinds let's show our unity in north india also whether you are member
of any association or not.

We should all meet on 1st or 2nd may at some common hall over a cup of tea.
Venue can be suggested by anyone of you.

Also be ready for some unanimous action around 7th may.

Dear All,

ý

Congratulations !!ý Indeed,

since the last couple of weeks I have been receiving copies various mails
that has been furiously pouring from in all parts of the Country.ý

This is nothing short of a revolution and I
HEARTILY CONGRATULATE all the initiators of this movement
which, by now, has turned into a huge avalanche and hopefully we will
achieve everything that we want for our livelihood.ý Frankly, I never

anticipated such a huge outpouring of sentiment which has gladdened my heart no
end & I am thrilled to be a part of it, specially looking at all the
members responding so very favourably, quickly and with so much of gusto. I am
indeed thrilled !!

ý

However, from my past experience I
would like to add just a few thoughts to the leaders of the
movement :-

ý

1.ýýýýýýýýýýýýýýýýý
Please
ensure that all the important OTAýs( for eg:-Makemytrip.com,

Cleartrip.com, Yatra, Via, Nijhawan Travel services etc all sign in with
the movement. Donýt forget, they do a huge volume of business.

ý

2.ýýýýýýýýýýýýýýýýý
Similarly,
all the big consolidators and MNCýs like Akbar, Ria, Carlsonwagonlit, Cox

& kings ,Thomas Cook, Mercury, Kuoni etc. should also be asked to
join.ý I fear and know that incase these above players do not join the

airlines will not get effected and no results will come out, since they
command a huge percentage of our business.

ý

3.ýýýýýýýýýýýýýýýýý

Ask
all the associations, specially TAAI , TAFI and IAAI to give a push to
the movement but carefully, or else they shall be pulled up by CCI for
going beyond their powers, and they shall be forced to pull out.ý

This happened the last time when I was President of TAAI.

ý

4.ýýýýýýýýýýýýýýýýý

I
personally suggest that you take any one domestic airline(since they are
easier to handle) and decide to stop
selling them for atleast 7-10 days. If this
non-cooperation movement is total, they will definitely feel the pinch and come
forward to negotiate.ý No sooner than we win the battle with one airline,
all the others will follow automatically.ý I think a one day bandh may not
work.

ý

5.ýýýýýýýýýýýýýýýýý

These
are my personal suggestions and most of all, you have my full
support and I shall cooperate in any action you may all deem fit.

ý

In fact, such a huge response has
never been witnessed before & I once again congratulate all the agents who
have started strong movement.

ý

Please do not let it
fail this timeýýýýýýý..

Sincerely

Dear Mr. Chandra Prakash Poddar and Travel Trade Partners,

I only partly agree with you.

1st of all understand that when IAAI have WON Court Cases against the Airlines, DGCA, IATA & MoCA than why make a new core group or whatever, so called Jago Re - Travel Agents.

If all associations leave their Ego's aside than No body can stop us from getting back Commission and I assure 9%, provided everybody supports IAAI, including admission into APJC.

Secondly, if we have to shut-down even for a day, it should be well planned if all associations, Travel Agents, OTA's, etc. agree to it with a proper agenda, morcha, etc. We also need time to inform our client's, give them time so that they can plan their trips in advance, we do not loose our client's nor does these airline get direct bookings and last but not the least educate our client's with regrads to shut-down.

For your info TAAI is the only association who has joined for 7th MAY closer.

Meanwhile, please also see the mail from one of the Chairpersons Mr Mayal NR of TAAI, attached below, which is very revealing;

QUOTE: As I told you in my conversation I have been told by TAFI and OTA's that they are not participating in the same. Please advise if this is true. Unless that happens TAAI will become a mockery. UNQUOTE

Requesting you all not to Dilute the matter for GOD sake and support IAAI as they have everything ready for the betterment of Travel Agents in India.

regards,
rajiv.

Dear Sir,

We r in receipt of yr mail. But we think u r unable to understand from where this spark's begin. The spark's was in effect from Eastern India only. This is the fight for the Travel agents and by the travel agents only, irrespective whether any association support it or not.  We Travel Agents all over India have been fighting with both Domestic & International Airlines, to restore their basic “RIGHT OF COMMISSION” since long.

Over all these period all efforts have failed and airlines still continue to stick to their stand, thereby compelling us to pass on the excess burden to our ESTEEMED CUSTOMERS. This is exactly what we, Travel Agent, have been strongly protesting, because Travel Agents Commission is supposed to be an integral part of the fare being charged by the Airlines. After all, the TRAVEL AGENTS Community not only generates almost 80% of the total sales, but they also provide direct & indirect employment to millions, and generate valuable foreign exchange for our country.

Does anybody work / sell without any REMUNERATION..???

If your answer is a “NO” please support our

Sir, we r very sure that u r also very well aware of the grim situation we r in currently, and what the association's have been able to do for us. All they have done is to circulate mails and take certain legal steps which have also not borne any fruit, after even all these years. Hence, this is high time that all of us looked beyond these associations and took drastic measures OURSELVES. After all, we have seen the worst and there is nothing further to loose.

Meanwhile, please also see the mail from one of the Chairpersons of TAAI, attached below, which is very revealing;

Dear Friends,

As I mentioned and have been mentioning time and again, WE DONT NEED IATA ( TO
DICTATE TERMS WITH US ).

Whether it is ' country specific ' or not. Since we are in such a strong position,
we should do business on ' our terms '. ( but we need to be fair to airlines too
as our other partner). It's a Joint Venture. Hence it has to be on ' equal
benefits '.

So the crux of the matter is ' redrafting Pax Sales Agreement '. Only then we can
put an end to all our woos.
