Zebra has none on their support page for the FX9500 - https://www.zebra.com/us/en/support-downloads/rfid/rfid-readers/fx9500.html.

Hoping to be able to update on a couple of old new to me fx9500s I have acquired but cannot find any place to download firmware.

Zebra seems to have removed them with the end of official support....

Zebra calls the firmware images  "operating system" for the fx9500.

Make sure you download the version with the number of ports your reader has.

Ah.  That's not confusing at all. Thanks for the info.

Just be happy you can web update them lol.  Doing firmware updates on 7400s make you feel like an extra in the movie hackers.  Once I got all the parts setup I updated all I had, but it made complete sense that sysadmins would have left the factory firmware on them.

Tell me more (if you wish) - I have a couple of fx7400s. As I am done for the year now, I will update the fx9600 I have then the 2 fx9500s I have and finally move on to the harder stuff for last.... before moving on to other projects related to next year.

to do the fx7400s you need to have the update on a ftp server, so I ended up configuring a filezilla server on my windows machine, put the updates on it, then give them the right ftp paths to the update options in the fx7400.  Once I got it all working it went pretty smooth, but the ftp server was a fun twist lol.

Question about updating the fx7400 firmware:

I see there is a file here called 3.60, but I'm a little unclear on how to do this and obviously don't want to brick the reader:
https://www.zebra.com/us/en/support-downloads/rfid/rfid-readers/fx7400.html?downloadId=bfa3da68-0d09-419b-9509-290c679ed56b

The admin website reads After the "Start Update" button is clicked, the reader will fetch the OSUpdateutilityX_Y_Z.zip(X, Y, Z represents the Release numbers ex 3.1.6) containing osupdFalcon.exe, the Response.txt file, and the FlashUpdateUtility.dll files. The application is then shut down; the files mentioned in the Response.txt file are downloaded, validated, and then programmed into flash. The reader then reboots on its own. If all the files are not downloaded or are corrupted during the download for any reason, they will not be programmed into flash.

I can setup an FTP server to host the zip BUT the zip file I downloaded from above Motorola website is called Merlin-5.03.01-Plat3600.zip NOT OSUpdateutillity3_6_0.zip.

It's not clear how the reader "finds" updates on the FTP server, i.e. does it look for *.zip?

Should I be renaming the Merlin zip file to OSUpdateutility3_6.0_zip ????

Merlin-5.03.01-Plat3600 DOES contain the exe, txt and DLL referred to above, so I assume it is the correct zip.

Thanks,

Patrick Campbell
