I had a request from a RD about helping with his race series.
Participants will get points for participating in different races, points for different placements in a race, etc.

Not all races on the same registration platforms or timed by same person.

I'm guessing a spreadsheet with lots on manual entering.
One challenge is having some people registering for events under slightly different names.  E.g., John, Johnny, Johnathan

Does anyone know of a series point calculator or a way to handle this better than a simple excel sheet?

Thanks
Rod

Can you make one on run sign up?

Check out Crossmgr.  Ed has written a module called Seriesmgr which, while not specifically designed for what you are asking, should do the job.

Thank everyone for their input.
The RD has clarified how they do the points.  It is different than what I have seen in the past.
It seems pretty basic in terms of calculations. I may try to write some code on my own.  The trick is to make a nice interface.

RD: "  8 race series where you need to do 6 of the 8 races to count.
Every athlete starts with 6000 points.
For every race you complete you subtract 1000 points and add your
placing.
i.e. you place 35th in your first race you now have 5035 points.
The 1000 column acts as a place holder to let you and everyone else know
how many races you have remaining to do in the series.
If you do more than 6 races you substitute your worst race out.
Lowest scores at the end of the series win.
Also broken down into overall and age group categories."
