Hi,

I'm looking for recommendations for pre coded tags.

I'm currently using Brian's reusable shoe tags - some of the originals I bought and some I've made myself, but my old running club are looking to chip time the 4 races they organise and would prefer to have tags on bibs. I could order more tags and program them myself but I was looking to compare the cost and effort with just buying pre coded.

What tags and suppliers would you recommend? I'm in the UK. Also, would you single or double tag?

Thanks

Phil

I buy my bibs, tags and foam directly from Feibot. 55 cents a piece for custom bibs over 1k. It doesn't even have to be all 1 design. I ordered 1090 bibs for 4 different races all with different designs.

Thanks Christopher, I'll check that out

It really depends on your volume, and the bibs that you use. Most of my events supply their own bibs so I just need to provide chips. If I was supplying the bibs then it might make more sense to have them pre-chipped, but it all depends. I have a couple chip printers that I got off eBay for under $200 with shipping (which TBH was the largest part of the cost) so I can just run off a thousand encoded chips printed and labeled from my couch LOL.

I have that option as well Patrick W but man it's nice not having to do anything related to the bib besides stick a tag on it with participant data.

If you print the participant data on the tag you still only have to do one application.  I'm actually waiting on a semi automated chip applier, if it works as I'm hoping it could cut down things more.

In the UK!!

I have had good quotes for chips from https://totalracetiming.co.uk/product/127

They can also code chips and provide other services

may be worth a chat with them

I just ordered some pre-coded tags with custom bibs for an upcoming race from runvirt.com. Super nice folks and they sent me samples ahead of time so I could test. They do not use foam on the chips, rather a tyvek label/film or something like tyvek that is supposed to be moisture resistant. I have always ordered custom bibs from Race Result and bought tags from Atlas and coded myself and cut my own custom foam strips. But after comparing the cost, and seeing the quality, I like what they are selling. I think I paid .46 per custom bib/chip coded. (I only purchased 300). Even if I decide I need foam and still have to add that, this is still a win for me, because it saves me a ton of time. The one thing we never have enough of. Tim

Let us know how the tyvek label/film works instead of foam.

I am looking at runvirt too. I also asked for samples and they said SURE. But it's been 2 weeks and nothing and now no response to a follow up email. How long did it take them to send you samples?

Hi all, my race was yesterday with the Runvirt tags. For the time that the readers were on, I had 100% reads. I finished the race with the readers off. I made it through 80 tags before I disabled the readers. (it's a long boring story about me not paying attention) but the point is, the Runvirt bibs & tags worked great and I will be using them moving forward as much as possible.

Jay from RunVirt is the man. I ordered 22,000 from them and so far so good. I driveway tested them and most of my races start this week. This price is definitely good

Do you have a contact email for Jay?

I was in contact with another guy who promised samples for testing but never send them and now doesn’t respond to emails.

I hate to order from a company that will leave me high and dry later and refuse all contact.

I don’t use mats and I really want to test the set up I am thinking about beforw I order anything.
