I want to mess around with some different RFID tag configurations so I'm going to buy some Dogbones.  I presume the Smartrac R6 Dogbone will work and is the preferred tag, but what is the difference between the Dogbone with the Monza R6 and the Dogbone with the Monza 4D?

Monza R6 and Monza 4D refer to the specific IC chip used in the tag. The Impinj website https://support.impinj.com/hc/en-us/categories/200156298-Tag-Chip-Products has more information about these. At first glance, it appears that R6 is the latest and greatest with features that could help with race timing:

AutoTunetechnology allows Monza R6 inlays to maintain high performance independent of the tagged items dielectric.

A patent-pending Endurotechnology makes inlay manufacture less sensitive to die-attach pressure, resulting in less variance and more predictable performance in final inlay product
