I saw where someone else had this error or similar but no steps to correct.

Here is the process:
Connected printer to power; put in labels.

Connected printer to computer

In options, set the QL as the printer and saved. I saw where the default paper size is regular size.  Do not know how to change it.

The Editor Lite is on.  Then, went to the KIOSK, opened  a race and hit print and error message occurred.

I cannot find any other settings, etc. or where the instructions are located.

Yes. Tried the pTOUCH editor and downloaded software and same results.

I have another event in a few days and would really like to take advantage of this great tool.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

i searched the forum and found this answer.
The instructions were under the options tab, and there was a link. Works like a champ!!!

there you will find some info on getting this to work.

I went to options. Realized the lite should be off. Did that.  I clicked on print components  and it went to a link to brother label printers. I accept at the license and it downloads an installer; I clicked on it and it installs.

I get no other message or anything.

Anyway, I go to an event and go to the kiosk and get the same message and still cannot print.

So, if anyone knows the actual steps, please let me know. We have several events coming up in a couple of weeks and would like to use it. Thanks..

OK, I uninstalled all that was there. I had the usb in the computer.  I went to options, downloaded and tried to print. Same error.  I uninstalled, reinstalled and then put the usb in the computer.  Nothing is working.  Can it be something in the sequence of connecting to the computer?  Can it be this is a WINDOWS 7 older computer?  What sequence should I be using from the time I turn on the computer and label printer until printing?  There has to be something I am missing. The label printer does work at least in the 'lite' phase since I have printed some labels to just see if it works.
thanks for any and all advice.

Yeah, sometimes the QL-700 can be tricky. Did you install both the Print Components and the Design Components (the links in the Options screen)?

By the way the Report Printer setting in the Options screen does not have to be set to the QL-700 printer. Leave that set to whatever your normal print is. The Results Kiosk knows to send it to the QL-700 if it sees that it is attached.

When you said you tried the P-Touch editor. Here is one thing to try in case you haven't done it already:
1. Open P-Touch editor
2. Click on File/Open and then select the KioskLabel.lbx file located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Cross Country Productions\Agee Race Timing\Bin
3. Try printing that from within the P-Touch editor software and see if it works.

One thing you can try - Open up Devices and Printers on your computer. With the QL-700 unplugged do you see any printer that is labeled QL-700? If so, right click on it and select 'Remove Device'. Now plug the printer back in and power it on. It should show back up in the list. Sometimes doing this is all it takes to get it to work.

If you're available right now (10:00pm CST) send me an email and I'll remove in and take a look at it. Otherwise let me know when is good for you tomorrow for me to remote in and look at it.

Freddie,

I had the same error with the printer. I found that I had to insert the CD that came with the printer,Click on Setup.exe , select "custom installation", and select "Printer driver" and follow instructions. Then it works great.

Thanks for all the ideas. Granted, none have worked but I appreciate sincerely the effort. I tried using the disc, used custom install, selected printer driver.  Went to a race, KIOSK, typed in a bib, hit print and still got the error message.

At this point, can we say frustrated  :)  I am sure there is something I am just not clicking but I truly have no idea.
I will try anything you all say so whatever will finally work..

Take care

YEAH!  Thanks, Brian!  Our label printer is working on the one computer!!  I saved the note you gave me and will keep it.  This is awesome!  Now, I just have to not waste labels!!  Tomorrow, I will shut all down, and restart all and test it again. As of right now, it is working. It was awesome walking in from the basketball game and seeing labels by the printer!!  Take care and thank you again.

In case anyone else has this issue - on Freddie's computer I had to install the b-Pac Client. You can download it here: Download Link

I have a Brother QL-710W. Installed the driver. Ran ART and got an exception error. Following above thread I then installed the "b-Pac" client. This did not produce the exception error but did produce a driver problem concerning a conflict with label size.

The QL came with a roll of continuous 38mm. The driver was expecting 62 x 38.

Is this what you would expect, Brian ? is there no way I can use the continuous roll ? setting the driver to be 62 x 38 made no difference.

Help, please...Steve

The "100' roll" referenced in the Options screen is the DK-2205 labels. Here is a few posts from the past:

If you google search DK-2205 it appears that they've gone done in price over the past few years. :)

I've noticed DK-22205 being sold. Is this different to DK-2205 ? Thanks

Hmm, I'm not sure, I did a couple minutes of searching and couldn't see a difference. If it's not a typo, then it's possible that the DK-22205 includes the black plastic holder whereas the DK-2205 is simply the paper roll.

QL700 printers come with two sample rolls, one of them is the DK-2205 label. Unfortunately the black plastic holder does not come apart. You can purchase a reusable cartridge, but I believe most people do what I did and simply cut through the sample roll cartridge to make it reusable. See the following image:

Brian,

I have now received a compatible DK-2205 roll and this time no error message - like Freddie's - and also no message warning me above incorrect roll format. But.......no label gets printed.

I have the b-PAC 3.0 Client Component & Brother b-PAC3 SDK installed.

I attempted to click on the Design Components to get the p-touch editor but nothing was obvious from the brother website : what product to search for ? PT or the QL ? nowhere can I see a download for the p-touch editor itself.

Help please.

Steve

Here is the steps to install the P-Touch editor:
1. In the Options screen click on the "Design Components" link.
2. You can click either "Product Search" or "Downloads".
3. Enter "QL700" and click "Search".
4. Select "Downloads", it should automatically select your version of Windows. Click "Search".
5. Download and install the "P-touch Editor 5.x"

Here is some notes I sent to the last person that had trouble getting the printer going. I wanted to share these tips on the Group page too:

1. First make sure that the "Editorlight is not on. That should be a small light on the top of the printer that can be toggled on or off.

2. I'm assuming that the "Print Components" have been successfully installed. The link to download and install the print components is what is listed in the "Options" screen of the software.

3. With the printer plugged in and turned on. Click on the "Start" menu of Windows and open up "Devices and Printer". If you see more than one printer listed as "QL-700" then that might be the problem. Even if there is just one listed, go ahead and right click on it and select "Remove Device". Now unplug the printer and plug it back on so that it adds the printer back in the list.

4. Let's try printing the label manually using the P-Touch editor. If you haven't already, install the P-Touch editor by using the "Design Components" link found on the Options page. When the website appears, follow the steps to download and install P-touch 5.0. After it's installed, open P-Touch Editor 5.0 and use the "Open File" button and navigate to the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cross Country Productions\Agee Race Timing\Bin" folder and double click on the "KioskLabel.lbx" file.

Once the file is open, click on "File/Print" and see if it prints. Let me know the status.

Side note: The printer does not have to be selected as the "Default" printer, and it does not have be selected as the "Report Printer" in the "Options" screen.

Thanks, Brian, all working fine now. The auto printing via the antenna worked first time.

Soon ready to set up a full working solution, but I am short of the USB-Pro that I need as backup / tag check / kiosk. Do you now have a satisfactory solution ? Great if James could get in touch.

Looking forward to trying out v5

I'm getting an error when trying to print from the Results Kiosk. I've tried the steps above and I was able to print from the P-touch editor and I can see the brother printer on the list of printers (is says all is working fine). Here is the error.

I'm juggling quiet a few things at the office job today, but I'll send you a link that will allow me to remote into your computer and take a look.

does it have to be a certain version (32 or 64 bit?) I've tried the p-components on 2 pc's a get the error. Installed 64 but since w10 is x64. Installed p-3editor as well and still get the error.

I think i have the wrong labels inserted, that will prevent it correct?

I just went through this with two new race computers and I solved it by uninstalling ALL the Brother software and re-installing the 32 bit versions of the driver and b-PAC.  This weekend the kiosk worked 4.0...or 5.0 by new-school standards :).  I think that it has something to do with ART being 32 bit.

One of the computers didn't like the Brother common installer for installing the drivers so I went to the Brother driver page (I use the QL-800's) and downloaded/ran the "Printer Driver Information Cleanup Tool" and then downloaded and installed just the driver without using the common installer.  No problems now!

I think it should work the same for the QL-700's.

I agree, use the 32 bit installers. I ran into similar problems.

I've ran in to a weird thing, maybe it's happened to someone before. I came across a (free) netbook that I figured would be great for a results kiosk computer. It's got the juice to run ART, I've installed the correct drivers, and the QL-700 is printing fine. I am able to manually enter bib numbers in to the kiosk and everything prints great.

The issue I have is when I want to scan tags to print. My tr200 connects fine, I'm able to program tags/etc, the kiosk even SEEMS to connect to the reader (the LEDs show connection), but when I try to scan tags I get nothing. The reader does just fine everywhere else but doesn't pick up anything in the kiosk window, thus no printing :)

Thoughts? Thanks!

When a tag is scanned you will not see anything happen on the Kiosk screen, it'll just spit out one label.  Does it say "Enter Bib #, Scan Tag, ...." at the top right of the screen when you open the kiosk?

I appreciate all of you sharing what you learned with the Brother 32bit/64bit driver problem. I do force ART to run in 32bit mode so that it will work across all machines and so that I don't have to provide installers for both (and hope the user picks the right one).

I am surprised to see that this fixes, 64bit machines have been the standard for many years now, but I'm glad to know there is something new to try if someone else has issues with the printer. Thanks fellas!

It says "Scan RFID tag or Search Bib #". My tr200's LEDs are also showing that it is reading a tag, I just don't get a reaction from the printer.
