Subject: Research Agenda for Urban Livelihoods - Call for chapter abstracts

Dear Kobena,

I am writing about our proposed book in the forward-looking Elgar Research Agenda Series that Kefa Otiso and I are editing. The books in the Research Agenda Series are designed to be visionary and provocative, help to define current debates, and outline potential routes for development in research on various dimensions. The series is aimed at new PhD students but is also intriguing for more established researchers. Our book is titled A Research Agenda for Urban Livelihoods and is under contract with Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd, UK (https://www.e-elgar.com/). We have attached a copy of our accepted book proposal.

As you’re aware, while the livelihoods approach is a robust framework for understanding the survival strategies of the poor in rural or urban areas, it has not been fully applied to the livelihood experiences of residents across the urban spectrum, from those in megacities to those in secondary cities and peri-urban areas in the global south. Moreover, there’s a need to explore, more robustly, new understandings of urban livelihood strategies, research directions, and their implications through a cutting-edge review of the theories and concepts of this approach.

Please share this call of chapter abstracts in your network and encourage interested authors to contact us (fow...@iastate.edukmo...@bgsu.edu) with an expression of interest. Of course, let us know if you would like to contribute a chapter.

Kind Regards,

Francis and Kefa

Francis Owusu, PHD
