The chronological order of the projects

Thanks so much for this amazing map!! I wonder if it is possible to see the map in a time sequence (year). For example, in 2018, A, B, and C started to get in service, while D, E, and F were still under construction. And is it possible to get a panel dataset for all the projects? Many thanks!

Hi Qiange,

I wish I had better news to share.  I am afraid that there is no reliable data sequence information in the AfTerFibre map.  For each network, you can see a link to the image or pdf that the map was created from.  Unfortunately those source maps are rarely dated and often have no legend at all.   In order to be able to capture some of this essential metadata, we have been working with the World Bank, ITU, Liquid Telecom and others to develop an Open Data standard for describing terrestrial fibre optic networks.  You can read more about the standard at:
