Docking Station Question

Hello AHCR community

I currently have an older Trendnet TU2-IDSA docking station and have to plug it into my desktop in order for it to work properly and scan, or extract, or even look into another hard drive that is connected. 

I read other posts that stated other users were able to facilitate their docking stations via laptops. Is there a certain docking station that works better than mine that I should invest in?

I use a vantech ide/sata usb 2.0 dock with external PSU and it works great, the problem i see with yours at the moment seeing the pictures is you don't have an external power supply to run the drives. The dock stations wont work unless the HDD is getting power, ether through an external PSU or by using the cords in the computer.

Perhaps your laptop is too old and doesn't output enough power over the USB ports?

I know my laptop can get finicky sometimes where I have to plug devices into particular ports in order for them to work.
