Training on Research Report Writing Skills (REPOA)

Aim: REPOA invites beginning and junior researchers from Tanzania to a training course on ‘Research Report Writing Skills’. The course provides practical guidance on improving the quality of research reports and creating journal articles with potential for publication.
Venue: The training course will be held in Dar es Salaam from 2nd to 6th December, 2013. Accommodation for participants from outside Dar es Salaam will be provided and travel expenses will be covered. Further information can be obtained from REPOA offices.
Deadline to apply: 1st November, 2013.

MsC Fellowship in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics (EDCTP)
Aim: Clinical research and clinical trials for prevention and treatment of HIV, tuberculosis and malaria are the major priorities for EDCTP. The EDCTP Master's Fellowship in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics aims to build research capacity in sub-Saharan Africa by supporting the training and career development of junior researchers in the fields of epidemiology and medical statistics. 
Amount: The scheme provides funds for the fellow to undertake a taught master's course in epidemiology or medical statistics at an internationally recognized centre of excellence and to conduct a field study of 6-12 months duration at an institution in sub-Saharan Africa to build practical skills. A minimum of 750,000 Euro of funding is available to fund between 5 and 10 awards.

Grant challenges in global health Round 12 (Gates Fundation)

Aim: Grand Challenges Explorations is an initiative to encourage innovative and unconventional global health and development solutions
Target: Applicants can be at any experience level; in any discipline; and from any organization, including colleges and universities, government laboratories, research institutions, non-profit organizations and for profit companies. Project have to be linked several topics including 'The “One Health” Concept: Bringing Together Human and Animal Health for New Solutions'
Amount: Initial grants will be US $100,000 each, and projects showing promise will have the opportunity to receive additional funding of up to US $1 million. 
Deadline: November 12, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Kwame Nkrumah Scientific Awards 2013 (African Union)
-> Call for the African Union Regional Women Scientists Award at the AU Regional Level

Aim: The objectives of African Union Kwame Nkrumah Scientific Awards are to (i) award and honour outstanding African Scientists for their scientific achievements and discoveries; (ii) promote scientific development in Africa through recognition of excellence among African scientists, women, men alike and younger researchers and encourage them to persevere in their research or academic careers, and nurture their ambitions; (iii) Popularize and Promote public understanding and participation in the implementation of Africa's Science and Technology Consolidated Plan of Action (CPA) and AU Assembly decisions on science and technology. and (iv) Raise the profile of science and technology sector in African Union Member States, Regional Economic Communities and so that science contributes Africa’s sustainable development, poverty alleviation and integration efforts. 
Target: The African Union Scientific Awards will be awarded to African scientists who have remarkable achievements in the fields of  (a) Life and Earth Science and (b) Basic Science, Technology and Innovation, demonstrated by number of publications, number of research graduate students, applicability of the scientific work to Africa's challenges, and its patentability. The regional award awards African Union Regional Women Scientists Award at the AU Regional Level.
Only nationals of the African Union (AU) Member States are eligible to participate in these Awards. For the African Union Regional Scientific Award for Women, applicants should have intensively published at least ten (10) SCI publications. 
Amount: The value of the African Union Women Scientists Regional Award shall be US$20,000 (Twenty thousand US Dollars for each scientific sector).
