Topic: Designing Health Interventions for Hypertension Control Using Geospatial Analysis
There is a surge in the burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries. One of the CVD risk factors, Hypertension, is of public health importance in our setting. Beyond individual-level factors, emerging research has demonstrated that environmental factors, including air pollution, temperature, green space, the built environment, and noise, may be important risk factors for CVDs. Therefore, understanding the temporal trend and geographic patterns of hypertension may inform the delivery of targeted public health interventions to reduce the burden of hypertension. In this talk, we will demonstrate how some useful geospatial concepts and techniques can be applied to develop an evidence-based intervention model at the community level to control hypertension.
