DepicT! '10 Judges Announced!
As the competition deadline for DepicT! ’10 looms closer and closer (the magic date is Mon 6 Sept, folks) we’re absolutely delighted to announce the stellar judging panel for this year’s DepicT! The industry professionals and filmmakers who will be pouring over a shortlist from hundreds of entries include:
David Sproxton, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Aardman Animations
Emma Lazenby, BAFTA-winning short filmmaker (Mother of Many, Best Animated Short 2010)
Nik Powell, film producer, Director of the National Film and Television School and Deputy Chair of BAFTA film committee
Christine Bardsley, Head of Film for the British Council
Michael Davies, DepicT! ’08-winning filmmaker (What’s Virgin Mean?) and director of BBC children's television show Tracy Beaker Returns (appears on behalf of Films @59)

The panel with have the difficult task of choosing winners for the main DepicT! prize of £1500 and the British Special Mention Award of tailored industry support.
They’ll be looking out for filmmakers whose shorts are distinctive, imaginative and engaging – if you want to be in with a chance of winning submit your super-short of 90s or less before the deadline and they might just be handing out a prize to you at the Encounters International Film Festival awards ceremony.

Speaking of Encounters – Mark Cosgrove, its Creative Director, wrote a piece recently about what he looks for in a good short film and the importance of festivals for emerging filmmakers. Check it out on DepicT!’s Singapore partner - Civic Life blog - http://www.civiclife.sg/blog/?p=1311

Keep your eyes peeled at your local independent cinemas – the DepicT! ’09-winning films (A TV Movie, I.D. and Last Minute ) will be screening at venues including Bristol’s Watershed, Manchester’s Cornerhouse, Glasgow’s GFT and at London’s Curzon chain this autumn. Can’t make it over? Our favourite DepicT! films are all available to view online at depict.org
