The Africa Innovations Institute (AfrII) will host the inaugural Phase two of Cassava Adding Value for Africa (CAVA II) Annual Review and Planning Meeting from 26th to the 30th of January 2015 in Kampala, Uganda. The meeting shall bring together participants from the five implementing partners namely: the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB); the Food Research Institute (FRI) in Ghana; the Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre (TFNC) in Tanzania, the Africa Innovations Institute in Uganda and the Chancellor College, University of Malawi (UNIMA) in Malawi. Participants will also include representatives of the Natural Resources Institute (NRI) of the University of Greenwich in the UK, and the Gates Foundation.
The meeting shall provide a platform for intensive review of the first year of the second phase of the award-winning CAVA project and enable regional teams to map a way forward for successful interventions towards further development of the cassava value chain across Africa in 2015.
The CAVA project, which won the 2014 Times Higher Education award for Best Collaboration in its first phase of implementation (April 2010-March 2014) aims at increasing income of smallholder farmers (SHFs) and processors through participation in profitable and sustainable value-added cassava chains in the five sub-Saharan African Countries comprising: Uganda; Nigeria; Ghana; Tanzania; and Malawi, in the second phase.
A live stream of updates shall be shared throughout the conference on our online platforms of the latest developments in the cassava value chain. Stakeholders will be free to take advantage of this facility by following/liking the institute through the following links.
